About the Game

Hell is Us is a 3rd-person action-adventure game that combines intense melee combat with the thrill of exploration. Explore a semi-open world to find answers to your questions and face mysterious creatures all along your journey.

A HOSTILE WORLD

As well as the civil war dividing the country, the region is suffering from a mysterious calamity, which has given rise to supernatural creatures that no modern weapon can defeat. Your drone and sword from a different age are your faithful allies as you cut a path through lands infested with terrifying chimeras and try to unravel the mystery of their appearance.

A UNIQUE EXPLORATION SYSTEM

No map, no compass, no quest markers: following your instincts is part of the adventure. Enjoy a unique experience that uses innovative writing and level design to let you make your own decisions and follow your instincts as you explore. Your discoveries are yours alone.

COMBAT AGAINST ORIGINAL CREATURES

Swords, spears and axes: a wide range of weapons forged specially for fighting these supernatural creatures is available. You will need to learn how to fight these monsters and use your drone wisely to stay alive.

''The central theme of Hell is Us is that human violence is a perpetual cycle fueled by human emotions and passions.'' – Jonathan Jacques-Belletête, Creative Director

I spent 30 minutes walking around a forest trying to find my way back to the main road by observing my surroundings. I can't believe I was actually looking at the environment and not ten pulsing HUD elements. There was no yellow paint on the road, either. There was no yellow paint anywhere.

Ultra settings, 1440p, DLSS Quality, with 3090 ~80 fps. No stutters. Impressive graphics and atmosphere, responsive movement. I stop buying AAAA+ games if this kind of quality gets delivered from smaller studios. EDIT: After 3 hours i can say i am hooked. Totally. I count the minutes when i can play again. Atmosphere: is so dark. Really dark. Its what the title says. And so thick you could slice it out of thin air. It confronts you with the human abyss that peeks deep into your soul. The stories you experience are dark, twisting, and what matters most; believable. Authentic. It just fits. The immersion is perfect. They know storytelling and in these times its one of the most outstanding traits there can be. Gameplay: Combat is nothing special but very well executed. Block, attack, special ability, dash/roll. But the focus is more on exploring/story. And that is what really shines. I walked through the same areas thrice, back and forth just to not miss anything. Without getting an...

no yellow paint on walls and roads no following a glowing trail no quest markers telling you where everything is no npc's telling you what to do just good old fashioned "here is a digital world and story, go explore!"

Absolutely fantastic game. So much better than the demo. ESPECIALLY since now I've traveled, gotten some upgrades under my belt, have some glyph "powers" and better defensive gear. Enemy variety is actually quite varied and challenging. ESPECIALLY if turn a corner running too fast and run into 10 enemies just chilling and waiting for your dumb butt to show up. Good times. Graphically, the game is a 9. It isn't crazy photo-realistic but damn close. The world building, environmental details, the stunning design and art direction. Just entering someone's home and seeing the radio sit on a shelf, the bits and bobs of a life someone lived in. Great attention to detail and it shows. The world and environmental design and art is absolutely insane. The world is HUGE, lived in (or was), has multiple paths or avenues to explore and discover, has a HUGE variety of local points of interest to help guide you in your 'investigations' and to explore. LOTS of caves, underground dwellings, sewers, et...

Hell is Us is clearly much more inspired by Alan Wake than it is by other soulslike games. If you're looking for a classic soulslike experience out of this game, this probably isn't the game for you. Hell is Us is pretty much Alan Wake with axes and a dodge roll instead of a pistol. I'm having a blast exploring every corner of every area, discovering relics, and learning about the story. It scratches the same itch that Alan Wake does, and has the potential to be a cult classic just like its predecessor! 11/10 environment and story 5/10 souls-inspired combat

good voice acting, performs well, i like what i've seen Edit: after playing a while, the no map thing is genuinely not a very good decision. I love no quest markers but having a basic map and fast travel between some save points would have just been a really nice quality of life feature that makes it more fun to actually play. I'm actually at 8 hours played, I removed steam Drm so its not tracking my hours anymore

It apparently is possible to make a game without yellow paint everywhere or a protagonist that doesn't yap constantly and give you the solution to a puzzle 0.3 seconds after getting to it. It feels like Alan Wake 2 with free-form exploration, no hand holding and decent combat with a nioh style ki pulse ability. It looks great and runs extremely well, the music and sound design is stellar and the difficulty can be tweaked if you don't gel with the combat. Already a 10/10 in my book, I would go on definitely not Adam Jensen's wild ride again.

This game is all about exploring the environments and learning more about the world. The theme is very mature and grim, a couple of serious moments already 10h in.. Absolutely immersive to me where I want to dive deeper. The graphics are generally good, but some of the vistas are quite breathtaking, they invite you to visit those places you can see from far away. The combat is mediocre but good enough, consider setting it to the harder difficulty so you have to use your abilities and the healing pulse. The main shortcoming of this game seems to be the enemy variety. If you play primarily for the combat and if you need twitchy action this game might not be for you. But if you love getting lost in a believable world and slowly uncover its lore as well as finding secrets that reward you with gameplay items then look no further.

They should have spent more time on mouse and keyboard binds rather then just posting a message saying this game is best experienced with a controller, that is just lazy. No vaulting or jumping over the smallest ledges in 2025 is also unacceptable in this type of game. Other than that I think the story and graphics are well done. Its definitely a bag, but the devs fumbled it. Thank you are coming to my TED talk.

It’s such a good game. The story, the characters, the voice acting (sublime), the feeling, the emotions behind the areas. It really hits. It resonates. I won’t spoil anything — but it was a long time ago I actually felt anything playing these kinds of games. It’s close enough to reality that my gut aches during certain encounters with certain characters. Well done. Great combat. Definitely challenging at hardest difficulty. I think it’s a must play game.
