About the Game

Lead humanity’s greatest weapon, the Grey Knights, against the corrupting forces of Chaos in this brutal and fast-paced turn-based tactical RPG. Root out and put a stop to an insidious plot to infect the galaxy with the Bloom, an intergalactic cosmic plague capable of rotting worlds into oblivion.

Armoured in faith, shielded by devotion, the Grey Knights’ very existence is rooted in mystery, enforced with mind-wipes and executions. Experience life in the 41st millennium and follow the journey of these elite warriors in a narrative penned by acclaimed Black Library author, Aaron Dembski-Bowden.

SHAPE THE FATE OF THE GALAXY

Upgrade your base of operations, build new facilities, conduct research into arcane mysteries and engage in combat missions across multiple worlds to purge the spread. The Bloom corrupts without prejudice; your choices will affect which planets succumb… and survive.

FORGE YOUR CHAMPIONS

Command your own, personalised squad of Grey Knights; learn a range of diverse skills and psychic abilities, unlock powerful equipment and specialise your champions into four unique standard and advanced classes. Each of your warriors can be customised with voice, armour and facial options to make them your own.

PRECISION TARGETING

Grey Knights are an elite chapter of Space Marines and are not in the business of making mistakes or missing their shots. The Precision Targeting system puts you in control of your tactical decisions, allowing you to plan your strategy with confidence, whether by taking shots from afar with sure-fire accuracy, or dismembering and dismantling a foe in brutal melee combat!

MUTATING MONSTROSITIES AND THEIR MINIONS

As the Bloom corrupts worlds, environments will evolve and erupt with deadly hazards and minions, cultists and the infamous Death Guard Chaos Space Marines will mutate with pestilent boons and blessings, giving them new attacks and abilities. Adapt your tried and tested strategies to overcome unsurmountable odds against towering foes and their servants.

CINEMATIC SLAUGHTER

Charge headlong into fast-paced tactical combat. Eviscerate and execute enemies up close in gory displays of prowess, or strike from afar with blessed bullets and powerful psychic energies. Use the dynamically destructible environment to your advantage by tearing down pillars or slamming vehicles into unsuspecting enemies.

I played another game (Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus) and finished it after about 43 hours. Although I am not a fan of the Warhammer 40K setting, I found Mechanicus to be a good game worth playing and finishing. On the contrary, I do not recommend buying Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters mainly because of the combat. The choice to have a maximum of 4 Grey Knights per mission leads to unnecessary difficulty and frustration. The enemies are either few and not very dangerous (making the combat boring) or much more numerous (compensated by a general inferiority in combat), leading to battles with 15 or 20 enemies. At this point, instead of being bored by the easeness, you have to fight against frustration because the combat becomes a search for the correct tactics to avoid too much damage to our four Knights. The story is ordinary, nothing exceptional, just a simple pretext for the battles. The graphics are nice, with a dark gothic style, as it should be in this setting. It does its job; after...

I enjoyed this game. I liked the turn based combat with no random misses. I'm looking at you XCom and your 95% chance to hit but miss all the time. I also enjoy 40K so that helped.

Really good game, high difficulty and great mechanics. Only in death does duty end.

Excellent TBS. I have played this off and on throughout the years, never completing the game entirely. Finally I decided to turn up the difficulty and give it another shot. I was not let down. The game difficulty ramps up very quickly, a few mistakes can cost everything, the classes are unique and can have a variety of builds for each of the eight unique knight types. The campaign missions, outside of the standard planetary 'bloom' operations, were fantastic. Though quite long, being able to save mid mission is very helpful if you are struggling or need to take a break. Yes the power fantasy of being a silver boy and slaying armies alone is lacking, but if you can ignore a few of the lore bits and just enjoy the game you won't be let down. That all being said, if you are new to TBS and do not understand the progression route you should take, the game would be quite long and likely feel entirely too repetitive. So if you are new to TBS, let me recommend that you focus ...

This game does not fit the Warhammer 40k aesthetic. Far too cartoon-ish. Models look like Toy Story in space, the voice acting is flat, and lacks the tone of proper Warhammer title. Your money is better spent on Rogue Trader. Was hoping for a grimdark X-Com game, but this just ain't it. 3/10, would not crusade with.

As BlacKKnight731 said "The story is ordinary, nothing exceptional..." I could even bring myself to care about it at all. The dialogue was just two teens being mad at each other. The parent telling them to shut up, and leave each other alone and get on with the mission. "I do not recommend buying Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters mainly because of the combat. The choice to have a maximum of 4 Grey Knights per mission leads to unnecessary difficulty and frustration. The other reviews you read here are true. The game is still in a near damn unplayable state. on standard difficulty the enemies just overwhelm you in the 3rd mission. The game play is already repetitive, turn based but there's no hit chance. your attacks, and the enemy attacks ALWAYS HIT. You start with 4 guys with like 10 health, and your enemies are not weak. The weakest ones will kill your supposedly god like space marines in a turn if they decide to. Every combat encounter turns into you saving random marines from enemies that out range you and outnumber you. And if the difficulty didn't bother you the broken saves that make you restart the whole game will. They have been making these turn based games for years now and this is just another piss mill game pumped out by Games Workshop. I am flabbergasted at the mediocrity of these games.

Mixed feelings about this game, I generally had a really good time with it but the final battle is such a slog it put a dampener on it a little for me. Good bits: Graphics are nice but nothing special. The Story and cutscenes are generally both very good quality, the 40k vibes are great and voice acting is too. The game has a bit of a slump mid-way through story-wise but is generally very good and gets the 40k atmosphere and approach spot on, especially the in-game animations. The actual combat feels very good in the moment-to-moment gameplay, but so many missions are such a meat grinder by the 2nd half of the game I found myself daisy chaining teleport abilities together to speed run any missions involving bloomspawn/spreaders. Unit types and specialisations are generally pretty varied, although some are far, far stronger than others which discourages you from trying different builds as the difficulty ramps up. It does a lot of things really well, I enjoyed my time with it ...
