Trouble Shooting [Very very important!]

 • Some anti-virus software may popup with an intercept notification: Because the GlobalHook plug needs to listen for mouse events, press ‘Allow’ and you are good to go.
 • This app crashes causing the system cursor to disappear: Select any cursor skin in the "Windows System Settings - Mouse - Change pointer size and color" section to reset.
 • The in-game overlay function of Steam or GeForce Experience may cause the program to display abnormally (manifested as a small pop-up window that pops up when the program is opened). Please close this type of pop-up window. If you see an ‘In Game’ steam window popup on the right-bottom corner once you start it, just do so: before you run this app, open Steam Library, right click on the App, select ‘PropertQies-General’ and uncheck [Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game].
 • If the whole window turn black when you open this app, please open the taskbar via the 'Windows' key, then quit this app using Tray Icon, then open ‘Nvidia Control Panel’, Turn off the ‘Antialiasing - FXAA’ setting for this app in ‘Program Settings’ Tab, or for all apps in ‘Global Settings’ Tab.
 • Smear problems: Because the cursor is a high speed moving object, in normal monitor you may sense a bit of smear problems. In other words, this app work great on monitors with High Refresh Rate and Low Response Time.
 • Input lag problems: In "Setting Window", Turn off ‘Vertical Sync’ and increase the ‘Target Frame Rate’. You can also open the directory of this app using Steam, locate and right-click ’AliveCursor.exe‘, go to ’Properties > Compatability‘ and select ’Disable fullscreen optimizations‘ then click ‘Save’.
 • This app will hide system cursor on start, and restore it on quit, so please wait for it to exit when you trying to shut down or logoff. If the app unexpectedly shuts down and casue the missing system cursor, you can just reopen the app, and you are good to go.
 • Settings not saved: Close the program, locate the installation directory of the program (normally is '[Disk]:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\AliveCursor'), delete the ’Data/Save/Setting‘ folder, then run the program again.
 • Other apps/widgets which mark as "TopMost" (eg: TaskManager or Windows Start Menu) may overlay this app, run this app as Administrator may give it a higher authority, but it's inevitable and may cause you inconvenient. I am working on it, but any help would be greatly appreciated!

2023 UPDATE: The application has improved, and there are some nice icons. But even after just two minutes of use, the cursor disappeared and I could use my mouse anymore. The application still shows itself running as if your playing a game called Alive Cursor. I think you'd be fine to try it out yourself, but I did notice that now the application has telemetry and connects to the internet (which it didn't do before)...so that's not cool. I still can't recommend the product, but I applaud the developer for reaching out to me and letting me know it's been vastly updated so I could give it another shot. I really like that Logitech mouse cursor and the 3D effect moving it around. MY 2021 ORIGINAL REVIEW IS ARCHIVED BELOW: This isn't a full thumbs down...more of a "MEH" Pros: No weird and unnecessary network connections. Big plus for that and no garbage telemetry. The content that is there (that works) seems to look pretty good. Cons: Not a lot of content, and so...

Oh, very
COOL
Not your typical animated cursor, it's a full 3D model that can be scaled and rotated. One of the best purchases I've made this year for customizing my Windows Desktop. The Luminaris Starship (from Iggy-Design) looks very good in this program. The little details, like the holographic animation when hovering over links, resizing a window or busy working in the background is nice. I love how you're able to set the cursor ship to get 'bored' and fly by itself into the distance around the screen :) Can't wait to see what people come up with when the Workshop gets added.

Love this software, would it be possible to have more examples to download like a dragon, or snake or lots of dragons, even more dragons or just a dragon?. I want a dragon. In fact lets start a "I want a dragon club". but whatever this software has potential to be really big perhaps the talented designer would make lots of pay for add-on packs with dragons?.

The input lag is more than noticeable (on a 13700k w/ 4090) and as a result precision is not good with normal use - even general use on the desktop. The menu and controls aren't great either (seriously, double-click the icon in the system tray to see different cursor skins???) though the guide on this page is decent. It also appears that all cursor skins are vertical - which at least to me is a little off-putting. In any event, it's the input lag and lack of precision that really makes this a hard pass currently. IF the developer can solve that problem then I'd change it to maybe recommended (depending on if you like the available cursor skins). Responding to Developer response: 1. From the time the user moves the mouse, to the cursor actually moving - there is a lag. It doesn't matter what the quality setting is. It is noticeable as a user, but I'm not sure how it would be noticeable with a recording (and not recording my mouse/hand movements at the same time). Nevertheless.. I t...

Currently functionality is BROKEN with this program AND THE REGULAR STEAM CLIENT. The issue comes when Standby or Bored is used (two best settings/features in the software IMO) i would surmise this is happening because both use assets from the UnityEngine? You can just turn those settings OFF and it will work fine, probably also works fine with BigPicture, yet I have yet to try that. Until this is fixed I have to rate this as a pass. As soon as this issue is fixed I will return here and change my rating appropriately!

I wouldn't generally promote this because it is pretty buggy and the big issue is that its unreliable. Really cool if it was more refined tho

When I open up the program I see most of the settings but nothing about choosing any of the downloaded steamworks cursors. When I click on the top left and anywhere close the edge of the program it just closes down. Steps to repro: 1. Open the program 2. Make sure You have any workshop cursor isntalled 3. Click on the top left corner 4. Observe the crash 5. There is no settings cog icon showing up Expected result: The user can access the "choose cursor" section inside the program Actual result: It closes down without any warning or prompt.
