About This Game

Conquest of Elysium 5 is a quick turn based fantasy strategy game with a touch of rogue-like. The game is full of depth, details and monsters. There are also a huge number of factions, each with its own unique gameplay and magic rituals.

The main focus in the CoE series is that each race plays differently. We're not talking about a unique building here and a unique unit there, we're talking about completely different playstyles, with different mechanics and different goals. Perhaps you're playing a druid, focused on amassing a vast forest and jungle empire from which to harvest ingredients to summon creatures of the woods with no practical need to conquer mines. Perhaps you're a dwarf, who's only concern is mines and produce units at a set rate every turn, focused almost entirely on upgrading those units to survive as long as possible since they are so difficult to replace. Perhaps you are a Scourge Lord, who’s pyramids of power drain the very life force from Elysium and channel it to him and his Heralds. With 24 different factions that alone is enough to keep your play dynamic as you vie for control of the map to conquer Elysium.

New for the 5th version of Conquest of Elysium is four additional planes to interact with, boats and ports which enables players to travel to islands beyond the main continent of Elysium, three new factions, new rituals and summons for the existing factions, new battle maps for different fortifications, new independent factions that fight each other, new monsters, more and different random events, and much more.

The game has ten different planes. There is for instance an Infernal plane that is the home of the devils and the demons. So if a demonologist manages to summon a demon lord, there will suddenly be a dark citadel without its master in inferno. Banishing a devil will force it back to inferno instead of slaying it permanently. Although extremely difficult it is possible to permanently destroy a demon lord by storming inferno and slaying it on that plane. Although there are many planes you will only rarely have to visit them. But they continue to run in the background and make certain actions or random events more exciting. Among the new planes in CoE5 is the sky-realm above Elysium. From the clouds flying armies might descend upon the inhabitants of Elysium, only to take to the skies and retreat if their losses were significant. But the clouds are not unattainable. Beanstalks, rainbows and tall mountain spires allow ground-born armies to ascend to the clouds.

Most factions start with a random set of rituals, a random set of combat spells and together with the random map that will ensure that no two games are the same. More rituals and spells can be learned during the game if you have the right resources and find the right locations. In addition to the aggressive wildlife of Elysium there's also random events to contend with, from bumper harvests and bandits, to the very gates of the underworld opening into Elysium. Your hands will be full before you even make contact with the enemy.

Hello and welcome to a review of conquest of elysium 5 . If you can't be bothered to read tldr 7.5/10 . - the good - 1) Lots of classes to play that play very differently from one another . 2) Lots and lots of map floors . 3) Very moddable . 4) No match the same all maps are random . 5) badass music . - the bad - 1) PIxelart has (mostly) fallen out of style nowdays so most people will say the graphics are ugly . 2) Very small community so its pretty hard to actually find people to play with if you don't have already . 3) In terms of actual 4x mechanics this game doesn't really have .... really any of them . For example the closest thing to a building you get in this game is maybe a graveyard tile that when you capture it would have a chance of spawning a free unit every other turn if you are playing a specific class . 4) Pretty bad AI . - the ugly - 1) this is a sort of result of the last point but because the game doesn't really have any deep 4x aspects this ...

too often no matter what you do late game will just throw bullshit at you endlessly so unless you are speedrunning killing every other faction you will get flooded by gods, demons and dragons that only seem interested in screwing your faction specifically. dont think that you are safe because you killed 8 gods of the elves there's another 50 coming next turn

The worldbuilding and just flavor of the game is impeccably good, the best flavor I have EVER seen. If there was a movie or indie animation or SOMETHING set in this universe I would instantly watch it. There is so much creative potential and everything is so fleshed out. The world is chaotic with a lot of stuff that normally would be the singular "magic system" of a world. The only thing I can compare it to is dandadan with its multiple crazy power systems. This is absolute cinema. Now for gameplay its pretty simple with a twist for each faction, but its really fun. Go out, fight battle, capture resources, make strong guys and repeat with some crazy shit in the middle sometimes. This is better than most games in my library.

I feel like the concept is fun but like...it's just really, really tedious. For example, the UI. If you want to change the difficulty for UI, you have to do it to ever single one...one by one...at different difficulties, to add variance. Tedious. The lack of an undo button also makes learning the game incredibly exhausting as, given how complex the game is, you're prone to make a shitload of mistakes early on, especially if you're learning a faction. So you have to restart from scratch and do the same difficulty change again...Tedious. I could go on longer, but I'm already mentally drained from playing so, yeah, I'll just leave it at that, it's kinda tedious.

It might look like a strategy game from 1996... ...but it also plays like a strategy game from 1996, so I'm happy with it. There are some really interesting and creative factions with distinct strategies that keep gameplay interesting for a long time, and the mod support is great if you want to add more or tweak the mechanics. There's a bit of a steep learning curve, but after a game or two you should be able to figure things out.

one of the hardest to get into games I've every played. Honestly, learning this game is like what people think learning how to play Hearts of Iron 4 is like. Overall it is graphically unimpressive and that does affect the gameplay as the visuals make it difficult to know 100% of what is happening in an intuitive manner. The two best parts about this game is A. The classes and B. The world/setpieces in the world. Starting with the classes, each feels extremely fleshed out and integrated into the world, none of them feel out of place and you understand the role they play in the world. From a gameplay perspective each class fills not only a niche but also completely different styles of gameplay. I feel like if this were most other studios, each race would feel like the same base but with different flavors, instead each class feels like you're actually playing a different type of person with different goals, motives, and sources of power. The world only complements this, from the vari...
