About This Game

One True Hero is a quirky 3D platforming adventure featuring a young hero who can barely save himself!

An Epic Adventure

An evil tyrant... A magic sword... A young farmer turned Hero...
It's a tale we've heard thousands of times before, and in the kingdom of Genericia things like that happen every other week!
This makes it hard for our Hero to be taken seriously when he tries to save a town that's mysteriously sinking into the ground, even if he is the only one capable of saving it!

Nerve-Racking Sword Fights

All sorts of terrible evil creatures will stand in your path. You're going to have to deal with them if you want to save the kingdom!

Loads of Platforming

Who knew there was so much jumping involved in being a legendary hero?

A Tale to Remember

Meet a cast of memorable characters, explore dungeons, solve puzzles and unravel the mystery of the sinking town before it disappears off the face of the earth!

Will you be the One True Hero this kingdom needs?

This game is very reminiscent in a good way of some of the classic 3D platformers from the 90s and 00s (your Crash Bandicoots and Spyros), mixed with some modern elements, hack and slash combos, sarcastic/self-aware humor and skill challenges. It's a fun experience and you can see the creator cared a lot for the genre. Play it and see for yourself!

Unfortunately, the combat controls are just too stiff and unresponsive for the extended combat sequences the game expects. I tried using a variety of approaches and moves, trying to target dangerous foes first, tactically using the healing move, juggling, etc.: The input buffering means it feels like even when I am attempting to execute a move consistently it sometimes just doesn't trigger, or totally whiffs even when I am locked on. The lack of move cancelling means that any mistake (or just a buffered input) means that I can be locked into moves for seconds at a time, and ultimately that, combined with the enemies fast-startup, high-tracking, and repeated attacks can create multiple seconds of high damage stunlock (and death). Some later combat sequences feature like 5 combat waves coming in one after another. Once we got to "4 homing shot mages plus armored rolling guy", it just is too frustrating for me and I had to admit I was getting miserable and angry and it didn't feel like "g...

SUCH A DISAPPOINTMENT.... I gave up at the pillars in the sewers. this game had so much potential but dear god, it was such a waste of time to play. 1. So many bugs and glitches 2. The audio cuts in and out, sometimes you get sound, and sometimes you don't. 3. The transitions from place to place feel like PS3 games, and they don't work half the time 4. The combat is boring, button smash and do combo moves. It's an adventure game 5. The skill tress is more like a combo tree, you cant upgrade defense or health, and all you unlock are combos for your sword which are shit anyway 6. The game rarely saves your setting so it will 90% of the time go back to defaults 7. the running scenes need more flow to where you should go. Rat Cliff games, if this is your first game then most of these issues can be forgiven, but honestly, this game needed more time to work out bugs and glitches and issues...like another 6 months MINIMUM 4/10 SFW

A pretty sweet game so far. I recommend playing this with keyboard and mouse, because the gamepad controls are a bit clunky, sometimes unresponsive and I have to let go of my left stick to move the camera with my right stick properly. Nonetheless, I'm having fun. There are some things to polish, but to my surprise it's actually entertaining! The dubbing is top notch and the humor made me chuckle a few times already. Go buy the game and have fun with this gem!

Cool and funny action adventure, which reminds me of a mix of Zelda and Monkey Island.

I've decided to change my review of the game, I would like to start with the cons and end with the pros. The cons are that the platforming can be quite frustrating at points, but if you're patient, you will get through the difficult parts. The other con is actually something I noticed when i picked the game back up today, and that is the 3rd and sometimes the 4th hits in a light attack only combo don't seem to hit an enemy, even with the enemy being right next to you. Now with the nasty bits out of the way, I'll move on to the pros of this game. Quite literally everything else, the story is fun and comical, combat is engaging and does require an amount of tact to carefully dodge enemies, especially in the late game as the amount of enemies increases quite a bit. The soundtrack is well written, the progression is well paced, and the skills are fun, a lot of homages to other great games of the genre in there. It's like zelda mixed with crash bandicoot. I'm looking forward to the next ent...

A game which involves platforming, combat, and puzzle solving with a hint of humor added to it. Over all the game isn't too hard for the most part, as the checkpoint system is generous enough in case you die a lot from falling into pits and other things.
