About This Game
His vengeance against the Gods of Olympus years behind him, Kratos now lives as a man in the realm of Norse Gods and monsters. It is in this harsh, unforgiving world that he must fight to survive… and teach his son to do the same.
Grasp a second chance
Kratos is a father again. As mentor and protector to Atreus, a son determined to earn his respect, he is forced to deal with and control the rage that has long defined him while out in a very dangerous world with his son.
Journey to a dark, elemental world of fearsome creatures
From the marble and columns of ornate Olympus to the gritty forests, mountains and caves of pre-Viking Norse lore, this is a distinctly new realm with its own pantheon of creatures, monsters and gods.
Engage in visceral, physical combat
With an over the shoulder camera that brings the player closer to the action than ever before, fights in God of War™ mirror the pantheon of Norse creatures Kratos will face: grand, gritty and grueling. God of War (2018) isn’t just a game — it’s an experience. From the very first swing of the Leviathan Axe to the final moments of Kratos’ journey with Atreus, this game had me completely locked in. If I could rate it higher than 10/10, I would. Honestly, easily one of my top 5. The combat is incredibly satisfying — heavy, impactful... u will felt every swing and hit. The world design is stunning, filled with secrets, mythology, and jaw-dropping views that make you want to explore every corner. What really sets this game apart, though, is the character writing and lore. Watching Kratos’ redemption arc unfold — from the rage-fueled god we knew, to a struggling father trying to guide his son — is powerful. It’s rare to see that kind of emotional depth in an action game. The story is personal, grounded in Norse mythology, and filled with moments that stick with you long after the credits roll. If I had to nitpick anything, it’s that I wish there was more of it....
I don't know if I should recommend this game. A part of me thinks that the game is extremely tedious, the enemy variety is severely lacking, and combat, the goddamn combat is awful, maybe that's because I played on the hardest difficulty. The experience in the early game was that this game was a hellcrawl not because the enemies are smart, but the enemies are damage sponges and take forever to kill while you take a crap ton of damage for anything. Kratos is slow, clunky, and not very good at getting out of the way, and the enemies usually spawn in large numbers that you are constantly surrounded and killed easily. The game gets easier as it goes along as you would expect in a game where you are supposed to be going on a power trip, but Kratos is really made of wet tissue. This is my biggest complaint about the game. The story is fine. It's rather predictable, but that's not a problem, the game still executed a well told story for the audience. There is enough maturity and great moments...
God of War looks gorgeous, has a fantastic world and characters that I like spending time with, and that is all. It is boring, repetitive, and does not require strategy or thought. Just keep moving forward. Kill more boring, generic enemies. Throw your axe at stuff. Level up your boy.
The most frustrating and unsatisfying 8/10 game I've ever played in my life. What should have been a masterpiece is bogged down by a horrible camera, terrible combat, repetitive enemies, an unnecessary and clunky leveling/loot system, linear level/puzzle design, awful back tracking, a feeling of either being far too powerful or annoyingly too weak, and other odd choices like withholding fast travel for far too long or waiting forever to give you a new weapon to play with, etc. God of War was always a blend of amazing cinematics and fantastic streamlined combat of popular genres of the time. Kratos is older and slower now so it makes sense to use an ARPG combat system instead of the more frantic and fast paced Devil May Cry combat system of the old games. And pulling the camera in close makes fights feel more intimate and powerful. These could have worked if they just wouldn't have forgotten to make them good as well. You should play this game if you hate yourself because despite all...
I cant believe it has taken me so long to play this game. It is absolutely wonderful. I love playing it on a slightly higher difficulty. Perfect amount of challenge and success. GET THIS GAME!
Great story, and interesting map to traverse. Altho, the backtracking can get annoying. The combat works well with both M+KB and a controller. I think it supports Playstation icons, but I use an Xbox controller so haven't tested. Currently in the process of platinuming it, and while there ain't that many cheevos, som of them are kinda hard and/or tedious. TLDR: 8/10
This game falls right into the type I absolutely love.... I cant stand multiplayer games at all. I don't think anyone wouldn't have a good time playing through this one. No need to write a massive formatted review here just give it a go and i bet you go through the whole thing.... looks like i have 452 hours of playtime in it so that's quite a few restarts. I have a good pile of games just like this one that I replay all the time. hopefully they make many more like it as i will buy them all on day one no matter the cost.
Going back to this game after years from playing it on console, still a masterpiece gaming classic
Superb game! Even though I've only played God of War back on PSP, it did not pose a problem even if I was not able to follow the stories that happened in between, as the storytelling of this game was beautifully and masterfully crafted. It was easy to follow, engrossing at times, and the dynamic conversations between Kratos and Atreus were quite enjoyable. It was captivating to see the relationship between father and son evolve and mature throughout the story. For the gameplay, if you are familiar with hack n' slash and souls-like games, you will definitely love the mechanics. Your reaction time and last second decision-making skills will be tested (along with your patience as well of course). The skill tree system is also comprehensive. Crafting and upgrading gear is worth the grind. But all in all, your grinding will really depend on your skills, i.e. GIT GUD! The open-world environment and graphics were also stunning as well. I also like how you get to learn a bit about Nor...
