About the Game

SUMMARY/BRIEF DESCRIPTION

El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron, originally released in 2011, is a unique third-person action adventure filled with a deeply artistic world-building, outstanding aesthetics and thrilling battles. Experience an incredible mix of 2D-like platformer action and a colorful 3D world in an exceptional setting.

An ever-changing endless visual experience

El Shaddai's artistic setting aims to provide a canvas-like world that changes in an organic way as long as you progress your adventure. The world keeps changing constantly in the most creative and innovative ways, perhaps even nostalgic.

Easy to play, hard to master

You'll only have four buttons: jump, attack, guard and weapon stealing. But this simple way of proceeding is deeper than one can expect. There is no need of manuals or walkthroughs to get into the game, but if anyone is ready to deepen into the mechanics, the game will offer a profound, precise and rewarding timing-based action experience. The motto of El Shaddai's gameplay always was to be "easy but profound". Many of the game's mechanics such as the offense-defense systems were carefully created to provide the best possible game feel.

The game received the "Future Game of the Show" award in the Tokyo Game Show 2010 and the script, noting some of the characters lines, got a gold mention on the Internet Buzzword Awards 2010 as well. The original aesthetics, the uniqueness of its concept and the feeling of being ahead its time (2011) were widely discussed on the international media.

Release notes:

The game is fully dubbed in English, but subtitles in German, Spanish, Italian and French are also available on its worldwide release.
What an embarrasment
This game is a total gamedev failure and was a huge marketing scam at the time. Concept-wise there are a few things but it obviously didn’t go well. Don’t let the pseudo-deep remixed religious inspiration front fool you: the game is a senseless patchwork of bits taken in other licenses that don’t work together at all. Take a look at what the game director did with the spiritual successor once he got hold of the IP. It’s mainly an extremely poor attempt to emulate Devil May Cry but with the typical 2010s pedantic « focus on artistic value », of which there is very little. Some visuals are nice but the general hazy mood is a washed-up version of the early 2000s watery aesthetics, and the world is an utter void where music and VA take most of the space simply by default. The game is loading all the time. Atrocious optimization for a couple of polygons at a time. You’re also interrupted every 5 minutes by 2 minutes-long cutscenes where you cont...

Fun game, Pain is the @ss to load on windows 11     El Shaddai FIX for Win11 - no additional software required. 100% working! Let’s Get to It! (credit to The Struggler) Step 1: Open Task Manager by hitting Ctrl + Shift + Esc or just right-click on the taskbar and choose Task Manager. Step 2: Head over to the Processes tab on the left. Find RunElShaddai.exe, right-click it, and select Go to details. Step 3: This will take you to the Details tab - RunElShaddai.exe, right-click it, and pick Set affinity. Step 4: A window will pop up showing all your CPU cores. Uncheck all the cores, then manually select a few (like Core 0 to Core 5). You can play around with this, but from my testing, this setup works great! Click Apply when you’re done. Step 5: When you launch / start El Shaddai, a mini menu will show up. Choose your resolution, go to Advanced, check lock Vsync, save it, and you’re good to go! P.S.: You’ll need to do this every time you restart the game, but hey, at leas...

This is certainly a unique game, and I think it's worth a playthrough even with some problems. It has some amazing visual variety and style, great music, and the story made interested enough to actually look into the story of Enoch. However, this game has some of the most maddeningly unfair platforming I've played since games from 20 years ago, where it is impossible to judge the distance of your jumps, and you will fall to your death many times. The checkpoints are usually pretty generous, but there are a few that force you to repeat tough fights that feel unfair. There are a number of drawn out sections that feel artificially padded. I like the combat system overall, but combat can be difficult, even on easy. But this is probably the best version of El Shaddai currently available- it runs at a pretty solid 60fps, unlike the PS3 and X360 versions that were all over the place, but I encountered a number of bugs- crashes, audio issues, missing subtitles...it really should have been pat...

A very stylish game visually, but the gameplay just isn’t there. It’s a weird version of rock paper scissors, but is either way too easy or somewhat frustrating. Visuals truly are stunning, but didn’t seem worth it to push through.
