The Chant

This is one of my favorite games of 2022. Brass Token put their heart and passion into this game and it was stunning. It gives some Silent Hill vibes mixed with a creepy cult, and some heart. I appreciate the addition of the panic meter, as someone who suffers with panic disorder it was really relatable. My favorite parts: The graphics/environments are amazing and unique. I appreciate both the island exploration and the Gloom exploration. The combat mechanics are fun and easy to use, and feel like the character would use the items in the manner she does. The enemies are unique and fun to interact with. The voice acting was top notch. THE FREE DLC was a welcomed departure from the original game, with its rogue like mechanics and amazing level design. My least favorite parts: The way we earn different endings can be difficult and confusing. It's easy to earn the same ending every time. The Chant is a refreshing take on survival horror with a unique setting—a spiritual retreat gone very, very wrong. The atmosphere is creepy without relying too much on jump scares, and the cosmic horror vibe keeps things tense. Combat is simple but effective, with resource management adding to the tension. The story starts slow but builds into something strange and memorable. Not a long game, but it doesn’t overstay its welcome. If you’re into atmospheric horror with a different flavor than the usual zombies/ghosts, this one’s worth checking out.

I hope that I am able to set aside time to finish this at some point.

This is a beautiful game with an incredible story but I feel like it's way too challenging in beginner mode. I feel like there is a lack of crafting materials making it hard to get through the game. I have played it a few times and still struggle often. I would love to see a better balance between difficulties.

just falls flat so hard, has huge interesting moments, bout to hit climax and bam hype goes to zero before climax. combat sucks, not sure what weapon to use on what. constantly getting stuck at stupid points, having to google answers but even thats vague. stuck at chasing sonny in that barn with elevator? i click button and nothing, wtf do i do. i reloaded game, reloaded from checkpoint, i even restarted chapter, the bloody gate of elevator wont open, i waited 5 minutes after clicking button, even google says click button and wait a few seconds, NOTHING. the game is on easy at the moment and im struggling to live.
