I Make Saints is a short psychological horror walking sim where you experience a journey through a mind of a serial killer. I liked some of its ideas and I definitely like the mood it tries to achieve; however, I think it relies too much on text notes and could have all of this mood done as more of an audiovisual experience. However, this is the first game of this developer, originally released (on Itch) in 2017, and the Steam version comes today with a bit of content added but no big changes. I mean, it's the first thing this developer has ever done in Unity and I understand why it's so simple in the "tech" part - and because of it I value the atmosphere and narrative parts they achieved within this small project even more. Somewhat (Software) has done other games since, and I think all of them are better in game design (or, walking sim design if you like) and provide a player more interesting (and horrifying) experience, which I find great as proof of its creator growth. I hope t...

About This Game
The game
I Make Saints is a short first-person psychological horror walking simulator which can be completed in 30 minutes.Wander the personal hell of a deranged individual and discover the true nature of their terrible crimes through notes, objects and saintly icons left over different atmospheric and at times surreal environments.
I Make Saints is a raw, demanding work attempting to make sense of the most despicable acts. Some souls are so damaged that they end up damaging others. Some minds seeking redemption are nonetheless irredeemable. Some dark obsessions take hold and won't let go. Welcome to guilt.
Features
- Four varied environments to explore : surreal, improbable places that feel like a dark dreamscape
- Low risk gameplay : no enemies putting the player in danger, just a tense and heavy atmosphere
- Disturbing narrative : true-crime style events are implied, but never shown
What's new in Steam Edition
Similar to a director's cut, this version of I Make Saints contains material that was originally cut from the initial release, such as :- An entirely new environment : walk the halls of the orphanage and shed some light on the past of the protagonist
- Unused dark ambient musical track has been added back to the game
- Minor changes to existing environments to ensure a better flow throughout

Guilt is a thunderous emotion. The motley of actions wished undone weigh heavy on the necks of those who sin greater than others, and no one knows that weight better than recipients who bear it. To the few who are lucky to be absolved from these sins may walk free amongst the weightless, upon a truly fruitful existence. But you. You know what you did. You’re stuck here. Forever to remember. I Make Saints is a horror-soaked walking simulator from Somewhat Software. A quick title splash sends you into a grainy, pixelated room mysteriously dark and scattered with near-empty papers slathered upon the walls, messily guiding your direction towards locked doors and trails of blood. Each paper can be examined with one sentence scribbled on each sheet, placing proverbial puzzle pieces on a table where you know neither what the puzzle creates, nor how many pieces it’ll take to finish it. These papers are scattered throughout areas that will take you deeper into the psyche of...
Powerful commentary on the cycles of abuse pushed under the rug all the time. Very atmospheric, with some great key lighting choices at various parts. Well recommended if you want to be unsettled deeply.
This is one of the scariest games I've ever played. I am a horror junkie, I read horror stories, I watch horror movies, I play horror games, and 99% of the time, I'm still searching for that horror rush to be quenched. This is that 1% where I was actually really on edge. The game does have some bugs, the card for the red lit area did not pop for me, but good lord. This game is unsettling as hell. If you REALLY like horror, you really need to play this.
I Make Saints puts you in the shoes and in the head of a serial killer. It's simple, but really effective - most of the narrative is told through notes that represent your thoughts. As a result, everything you read goes from slightly amusing to deeply disturbing real fast. There is not story or gameplay to speak of, since you simply walk around, collect four objects and read notes until the end, but the point is that it's an exploration of madness, of illness and of guilt. I don't think I Make Saints is for everyone, and the content warnings in the description should be heeded. Although nothing happens (no murder, no sexual assault, nothing), there's a lot that is implied, sometimes very heavily. If you can deal with that kind of content and being a psychopath for around twenty minutes, it's an interesting experience! I recommend giving Somewhat Software's other games a try as well, since they've gone on to do more polished and unique stuff since.
Find more revie...
We need more games that explore hardcore themes. The card collecting parts are gut-wrenching. Thank you, William.
A very intense and emotional experience without being exploitative. Punches you in the chest while using visuals to tell a disturbing story.
Absolutely eerie.
I don't know if I should recommend this game. It has bugs and I really truly don't know if I even reached the end. I had to restart due to a game breaking bug mid way through when one of the saint cards didn't appear. The best thing about this game is the VHS style plus it is cheap and has a very creepy feel to it. I still don't think I would recommend it because of the bugs. Once those are fixed maybe I would. Something tells me maybe it wasn't the wisest idea to play this while sleep deprived, suffering from an infection, emotionally distant shortly following a dentist visit and feeling the after effects of puking a glass worth of blood from the mouth at roughly 6AM.
