Submachine is a hand-drawn puzzle adventure game. You will find yourself in a vast network of desolate locations containing puzzles, secrets, notes and items to collect to help you along the way.
the World of Submachine
With over 1900 rooms to visit, there's a lot to see here. The underground world of submerged machines offers you vast variety of locations and structures to discover and repair. While everything is shattered, you will try to put things back together to understand and escape.Story
You are alone here. You will follow the footsteps of a banished lighthouse keeper discovering his descent into ruins of Submachine. The story is divided into chapters that will unlock for you as you progress through the game. The story is conveyed by series of notes that you'll collect and read.Puzzles
There are tons of puzzles, some of which you'll solve by bringing the machinery back online, tinkering with it, turning off and on again. For others you'll need to find missing parts, levers that were broken off or stolen, depleted power sources, gears, cogs, lamps, coils and so on. As you move through the structure, you will be putting back together things that were shattered.Graphics
Entire game is hand-drawn. There's nothing auto-generated nor procedural. Each location was thoughtfully designed. Stylized drawings give the game its eerie atmosphere.Music
Ambient music for this game was created by ThumpMonks, with chapter 1 ambient by Marcus Gutierrez. The music perfectly emphasizes the atmosphere of lonely exploration.Screenshots
User Reviews
I discovered Submachine back on one of the Flash game sites and instantly fell in love with them. As soon as a new one came out I'd play it. I'm happy to see the entire series in one place, which also includes an extra section after unlocking everything you can in the main and side chapters. Sure, I needed a walkthrough to play through each section, but the story is what gripped me. Recommended for anyone interested in exploration adventure games that tell a story through notes.
Simply brilliant
A remake of a classic Flash series. It is well done. My main criticism is the later levels (and secret hunting) tend to get tedious with the amount of clicking between transitions to backtrack all over the place.
I played the original submachine games back when they were flash games. Story is still amazingly confusing and the puzzles top notch. I am disappointed that the entire game used the same soundtrack and background music instead of the unique ones used in the original chapters
It's like a rusty lake game but 10+ hours. If you like that kind of game you will like this. Sometimes I miss things to click on which can be a tiny bit annoying, like you might not notice that an opening is "a way" until you happen to click and it's like oh, that's why I was stuck.. Other than that it's a fantastic game, just wish directions you can click had little arrows or something.
Absolutely Amazing! Love this collection and so glad to have it on steam. Had never played until a few years ago when a friend was astonished I hadn't yet and had to watch me play through it. Now so glad to have it on Steam. Mind blowing I had never played before I know, but for anyone who hasn't, do it!
classic
This review is a "Yes I recommend this game, BUT-" For starters, I played the original 2 games on a flash game site way back when I was like 8 years old. It was really cool and the atmosphere was unmatched by any other flash game from its time. I never even knew the series was still ongoing during this entire time. I was VERY pleasantly surprised to hear there were 8 other games in the series. I am now done with all 10 of the mainline games in this pack. And I have to say this game has so much charm and personality for an escape room puzzle game. 8 of the 10 games were incredible games that really made me think and explore to the fullest. However, 2 of them (Chapter 8 and Chapter 10) were absolutely miserable to play. (more so chapter 10) There was way too much information, way too much back tracking, and especially with 10, a miscommunication with introducing a new mechanic not seen in any of the other 9 chapters. This just genuinely ruined the experience for me so much so that I...
if you liked the flash game series, youll really like this version
