If you looked at this one because of the re-release of the first one then read on because there are changes in this game from the first. For starters, this game focuses more on hero units than a giant army. In a skirmish, you will most likely have much smaller armies than that of the first one. However, this game took pages from the Men at War game to include better tactics rather than just throw everything you have at the enemy. Base building has been gutted, for better or worse. Now, you just have an HQ where you can deploy your units. You get power and requisitions from strategic points. So the game rewards you for a more aggressive play rather than defensive. No turtling if that's how you like to play. There are only 6 playable factions compared to the first game, but in fairness, some of the races played to similarly in my opinion so for better or for worse, there's that. If you decide to buy the game, you will get the base game, and the two expansions. However, they all have...

This Dawn of war is my Dawn of War. I know it didn't please the fans of the first one, but it was the game that introduced me to Warhammer as a whole and I loved playing it back wen it first came out. I recently started replaying it again, but I hit a hard block on progress after a few missions, and none of the solutions online have resolved it for me. I'm hoping the OG Dawn or War remaster will mean this one gets a remaster too. I'm voting up despite the version I have not working because I still love the game itself.
Been playing this on and off since launch love it, Now it won't work at all on my PC... Sad was a good game
Games Workshop's zero tolerance policy against fan content hurts the community and they don't deserve a dime until they stop this.
im gong to keep it really simple and plain for you: If you loved the first Dawn of War, then avoid this for your own sake. It's absolutely NOT Dawn of War from this game onward. It turns into an RPG, class system, xcom gameplay, amalgam, and doesnt involve the base building until late/end game, and only plays out as such in multiplayer skirmishes. It quite literally gave me a visceral reaction, because of how different the game is.
Maybe this isn't a popular opinion but this game alone has dragged me into WH40K universe, and it's been following it, already fascinated about the grimdark lore of 40K The game is more like squad based tactical RPG, which is fine by me, since I'm never a big traditional RTS fan, DOW 1 is good tho don't get me wrong, but DOW 2 is more for me, since it's more engaging and the storyline wise and gameplay wise Well if you like more into tactical RPG/RTS based of WH40K, get this instead, but DOW 1 is still THE game to go to, if you're into traditional full-scale RTS
Easy to see why Relic lost the rights to Dawn of War 4. Was surprising they even got the rights to DOW3 after this poop-pile. Positives: Characters and their interactions Negatives: Everything else. Everything.
gg. Company of Heroes meets 40k. This is a narrative campaign (though there is skirmish online), where you control 1-4 units and don't build bases. The commander and each squad leader is a character, the goons in the rest of the squad aren't important (or useful). If you want more of the non-hero rts then look more to Dawn of War: Retribution.
This is where all the territory capture RTS hype all started along with CoH.
