Very cool game, it is similar (a bit) like ISLANDERS that I really liked. great game!
This is a fun and relaxing strategy game. You're given a hand/deck of cards, and place down buildings. Buildings give gold based on terrain bonuses and adjacencies, and you get more cards when you finish quests, and also when you reach certain income threshholds. The round ends when you run out of cards. Look, I had some honest suggestions for this game when it was still in demo/early access and the devs actually listened! Either they were on the same page I was with further features (I suggested terrain modifiers and stuff, that got in), or I'm just that awesome. .....that and they put in otters. OTTERS! THE FISHERMEN HAVE TO DEAL WITH OTTERS EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE I don't have a problem. Okay, I do. That problem is lack of otters. A lack that First Days of Atlantis does not have. :3
English + Deutsch You have to think a bit about where to place which cards in order to get as many points as possible and also how to manage to reach the current goal so that you get a new pack of cards. Sometimes it doesn't work out so well so that you end up with just a few points but either way, this game is a lot of fun and a nice pastime that you can play several times because it is very varied and always different than what you played before.
It's a good game for in between, hunting archives is fun even if there's one I'm still missing. The graphics are kept simple but randomized, the game worlds seem to be generated randomly aswell. The hardest thing about the game is that there is no going back. It therefore makes sense to write down a few arrangements on a piece of paper beforehand. The quests are a good side mission, but the reward for completing them feels too weak in some cases. I would like to see buildings that are a little more complex and that the bonuses are listed better and more consistently. However, the game still has a few areas for improvement: The coins gain sound is very anoying and breakes the relaxation. It doesn't keep the mouse in the game, so it often happens that you tab on your 2/3 monitor from the game. The downward movement is too aggressive, sometimes I just want to select one card and the camera whizzes down already.
It's definitely a step back from traditional city builders, but in this case that's kind of a good thing. It's challenging enough to pique one's interest trying to unlock the higher tier buildings, but relaxing enough that it's a good time sink if you just need something to do while you relax. All in all, not a bad little game, especially if you catch it on sale.
