It's honestly, fine? Played exclusively on steam deck, bought in a sale. VC completed 100%, really great nostalgia. SA mostly there other than collectibles. Deck compatibility is good! Rockstar launcher is the pain. You have 15 mins spare on your break to play around for a bit. Launch from steam, realise game needs an update, update game, launch it, rockstar games launcher needs an update. Close. Re-launch. Rockstar games launcher sits pondering for a few minutes, and before you even get into a game it's been 15 mins and that's it. Or twice now, loaded it up, gone on holiday, no wifi, allows you to play a couple times, then rockstar launcher locks you out as it needs a connection to verify itself. Or you have poor wifi (e.g. me in my garden), launches and hangs on the launcher until you give up. Get rid of the launcher!

About This Game
Five years ago, Carl ‘CJ’ Johnson escaped the haze of Los Santos, San Andreas...a city tearing itself apart with gang trouble, drugs, and corruption. Now, it's the early 90s. CJ’s got to go home - his mother has been murdered, his family has fallen apart, and his childhood friends are all heading towards disaster. On his return to the neighborhood, a couple of cops frame him for homicide, forcing CJ on a journey that takes him across the entire state of San Andreas, to save his family and to take control of the streets in the next iteration of the series that changed everything.
Developed by Rockstar Games, adapted by Grove Street Games.

The game uses a modern, GTA V-style control scheme, which makes shooting and driving much easier than in the original. The original story, characters, and massive open world of San Andreas are still fantastic and hold up well today. The lighting, shadows, and environmental textures are a major upgrade over the original PlayStation 2 version. A huge quality-of-life improvement. If you fail a mission, you can restart from a checkpoint instead of the very beginning. Selecting weapons and changing radio stations is much faster and more intuitive with new selection wheels. The game is massive, with three cities, a huge countryside, and tons of missions, side activities, and RPG elements. The story of CJ and the Grove Street Families is iconic and filled with memorable characters.
GTA San Andreas has always been a huge part of my childhood, so playing the Definitive Edition feels really special. The story, the characters, the world – it all brings back so many memories. Of course, the game isn’t perfect, but for me that doesn’t really matter. It’s about the atmosphere and the nostalgia, and this version gave me the chance to relive those moments in a fresh way. Driving around Los Santos with the soundtrack blasting feels just like the old days, only now with updated visuals. I honestly got hooked all over again. My score: 10/10 – a legendary game that will always stay close to my heart.
And I took me 10 minutes to find out this game was absolutely dog ass. Now I know that if I wanted to play original versions, I'm just going to emulate it instead. Don't waste your money, the "Definitive Editions" aren't fixed. Just go download PCSX2, find some games and play that instead. You're welcome. This goes for Vice City and III, as well.
The fact that this version is playable without excessive modding is enough to get a positive review from me. Definitely not the best version of San Andreas to play, but if you are going to play it on modern PC specs and don't want to spend hours trying to patch and mod the original (which never seem to work anyways), it's worth it. I don't know about full price, but at -60% off it's a great deal. Restored radio and FusionFix mods are necessary. That's about it.
If you are a first time player DO NOT experience this game like this. Absolute Horrible Remaster! Find a way to get the orginal San Andreas Version.
I'd probably gave this remaster neutral rating if I could. Imho it's not terrible, but not as good as original SA. There are some differencies I don't like, for example biking works differently, melee fighting is more 'modern' with lock in, but that makes it worse and Idk what it is, some missions seems much more easier than in original, but might be just a feeling. I'll personally stick with original SA, don't think I'm ever gonna touch this version. There are many more things I like more in original or are missing in the remaster, but the review would be too long.
Ugly port, only reason I bought this is for UEVR. I have played this game since it released in 2005 and let me tell you enb series from 2009 running on my intel core 2 duo integrated graphics looked better.
Game crashes even without any mods and has a glaring amount of bugs that haven't been fixed for the last five years, despite numerous fixes from the community - which sadly DO NOT work, as R* implemented a byte size check which fatally crashes your game when you try to apply any mods or fixes, even crashes without any mods installed at random, usually in 5-10 minutes.. See (https://steamcommunity.com/app/1547000/discussions/0/4633735454895659769/) for example UNPLAYABLE. Do not waste 60€ for this buggy piece of trash, better play the 2004 original, unless R* allows the community to fix their game!!!
