Most metroidvanias I've played feel like a series of artificial roadblocks and sensational design features, but Vernal Edge places foremost focus on the depth of its mechanics, platforming, world-building, and exploration.

User Reviews
I have to admit I don't see the vision for Vernal Edge. It's a metroidvania cut into a bunch of smaller maps that eventually start to interlock a bit. The combat, with its...well, not unique, but atypical stun gauge, is kind of interesting, the maps are generally well built, the movement abilities are eventually pretty cool, and the character writing is okay, but...I dunno. It lands a little shallow for me. Not very saucy. I'd recommend just about any other metroidvania I've played before recommending this one. I haven't finished it, so maybe I'll change my mind, but I don't feel pulled to return to it after hitting probably the halfway point.
The game looks cool, sounds cool, controls well, but is marred by awful, repetitive combat that kills the whole thing so fast.
