ALONE

Although this game is cheap, has easy achievements, and can be completed within one sitting, I can't really say I'd recommend it. The first problem is the English translation isn't the best- there are quite a few errors throughout, which is a bit of a bummer since this is a pretty text heavy game. The second issue is the story itself. It's extremely bare bones and predictable, and uses the basic "yandere" trope with no inspiration or creativity. Some of the dialogue is a bit silly and doesn't do the rest of the problems any favors. The final issue that I have with the game is...it's just not scary. There's only about one jumpscare in the entirety of the game, which is just a loud noise. Sometimes you'll encounter voices and "ghosts", but I just wasn't feeling it. The one positive point I can give this game is the stamina and sanity system. These systems come into play about halfway through the story, and run out based on how long you stay in certain rooms or as you search for items. ...

I’ve only played one run of ALONE so far and, yes, I died—but wit was fun! Guiding Yeongchul through his creepy home while a suspicious intruder stalked me kept my heart racing the whole time. The tension builds fast, the puzzles are clever, and even though it’s a short game, it packs atmosphere and suspense into every moment. I’m already itching to jump back in and see if I can survive next time.
