After 9 hours, I'm quitting the game. It's a shame because I had a fantastic time with it for a while, but some very intentional and annoying mechanics completely throw it off. Every single time you die, you are required to give up between 30% of ALL of your gold to restart at the most recent savepoint (whenever you last enter/exit a dungeon). This means that if you so happen to stumble upon an area which you're way too under-leveled for (which is EXTREMELY easy to do, as this game never tells you what level you're expected to be before you clear an area out), you have the choice of either losing a substantial chunk of your money, or backtracking up to and potentially over 15 minutes to get out. For a game that's meant to encourage exploration, it's incredibly punishing and unrewarding (in terms of gold/gear/anything to advance your character) to actually explore. It's such a shame that this mechanic is so bad, because I otherwise really liked playing this game.

Игра предоставляет очень мало средств для прохождения на максимальной сложности перед финальным боссом. Множество неудачных геймдизайнерских решений, в том числе утомительного бектрекинга и однообразных пещер с ватным трешем.
Every dungeon is a maze. There is no town portal spell. You will constantly get lost and find areas you have to come back to. Then spend hours trying to find your way out again.
This game is plain bad. Especially when it comes to dungeon design. I was lost for what felt like hours (although it must only be minutes) and could not figure out how to proceed with the quest. Then, they make the genius decision of not giving a bloody map of the dungeon. What a waste of time!!!!
*Warning: Spoilers* Atrocious, Horrible Game, and one of the worst I played this year. I liked the first Hammerwatch game very much. It was a simple RPG with Retro graphics in which you collect coins, kill monsters, and progress to the next floor. Easy to understand, hard to master. Then, when I learned about Hammerwatch II, I got excited immediately. This excitement, however, was the biggest mistake I made this year and the slap in the face from this game left me crying on the floor like a little b!tch. Hammerwatch II takes the Open World approach instead of the fixed levels from the first game. Although I still prefer the way the first game plays, I could respect the concept and was eager to explore and see what the game has to offer. The storyline picks up where the previous game left off, right when you slew the red Dragon. Now, some generic story about a Necromancer that captured the city of Adventurine (or whatever) takes place and you need to collect keys, break seals, kill...
Solid game. Cant wait to play it multiplayer.
I dunno, Crackshell could sell me the same assets 100x and I would keep buying it
(although I bought this one at a steep 80% discount!)
Same enemies, same gameplay, same dungeons, with an annoying 'open world' backtracking galore map design! Also, one of the least creative fishing minigames' imaginable! GREAT JOB GUYS!!! Another annoyance is quests begin to have an unseen timer, and you will auto fail as "someone else" will complete it before you... GREAT JOB GUYS
I'm only 3 hrs in... and I've played the other games. And I have a big library. This game is way under rated. I've slept on it because of the ratings. I could listen to the main title music for hours.
