It's been a few years since I first played this game, and I feel like that's long enough for my feelings to settle, and form a review. I also want to get a review out now, specifically, for reasons I'll get into later. First, it's important to understand the context Psycholonials was made in. This game was made by Andrew Hussie, the same person who made Homestuck. It's impossible to fully describe Homestuck, but what you need to know is that it was an absurdly popular and influential webcomic from the early 2010's. If you're online enough to find this game, you have played, read, or watched something inspired by Homestuck. It also basically ruined Andrew Hussie's life. In the years following Homestuck's finale, Hussie has been consistently mired in controversy. Critiques of the way race is handled in Homestuck, a $2 million kickstarter for a game that's still unfinished, The Homestuck Epiloques and Homestuck^2 being poorly recieved, accusations of unfair working conditions from their...

main character starts a cult whose ideology is framed around "kill your haters" and when she kills one of the cults higher ups for bad tweets about her from years ago its treated as "wow doing that made the cult leaders friend sad" instead of "wow you just killed somebody for wrongthink." they also give her a psuedo redemption at the end for some reason. absolute slop

This is a true piece of art. There is a lot to seemingly unpack in this whole package, and seeing that I've just finished it as of writing this review, it might take more time to have everything sink in. Taking place in April 2020, near the start of the pandemic, the story lies in a sort of "fictional non-fictional" version of the world. World events and real-life people are discussed as if this had taken place in real life, but it naturally takes a turn into non-fiction at some point. I don't see much discussion about this story since it feels so unheard of, but this was very hard to put down and stop reading; I basically spent my whole afternoon/evening reading the whole thing, and it didn't take terribly long, maybe about 5 or 6 hours if you read nonstop. Hussie's writing has always been very unique, in my opinion, and his uniqueness doesn't shy away here at all. Like another review said, I honestly wish Hussie would write more stories since his writing and character building and ...

Awful. Genuinely awful. I just couldn't stomach how incredibly unlikable and terrible all the main characters are in the first couple hours while the story bends completely over backwards to justify every awful decision they make as somehow good actually. How does one go from writing Homestuck to this garbage?
Also separate from the review but PSA that Hussie is a complete POS
SCAM! I bought this game and now it's free, it's not even worth being free, so don't bother, but know that Andrew Hussie specifically scammed anyone who bought this piece of crud, like I did, not only was it awful, it regressed culture, drowned in the 2019 virus, Gender, and Politics, but Andy is too unprepared to understand, but pretends he does. I say place this game away from you with a 413 foot pole, and if anyone actually unironically likes it, consider it a red flag, not even joking, they are more than likely a toxic person, because this is a toxic game, made by a toxic person, advocating toxicity.
