About This Game

Design and build your own medieval tavern!

Tavern Master is a medieval tavern management game where you are in charge of building, maintaining and running your very own cozy tavern!

Buy tables and benches, fill barrels with drinks, hire staff and you are ready to serve your first customers. Make sure your employees are happy, there are enough drinks and seats for guests and soon you will be able to expand your business in various ways.

  • Build a kitchen and hire chefs to start serving food of all kinds. Make sure that there are enough ingredients or your customers might leave angry
  • Hold special events to attract special customers who have very specific food and drink requirements. They will come in the morning and stay all day
  • Hire musicians to attract more people to your tavern and make customers have more patience while waiting for a drink

Build your dream tavern
You will have many tools at your disposal that will help you create a perfect tavern. There are many different walls, floors, fences, stairs and furniture that will make every tavern unique. At the beginning there will not be enough gold to buy the best quality furniture but as your business grows so will the tavern! As a cherry on top, make sure to think of an amazing name for it!

Optimize the workflow
In order to attract customers you will need to have enough seats and tables with a light source close by. The surrounding area also needs to look beautiful and decorations will help with that. At one point there will be a lot of guests coming in and it is important that your staff can serve everyone before they leave angry from waiting too long. In order to do that you will have to design the space so there is an efficient way for your employees to walk in an optimized route.

Create rooms for overnight stay
Some of the guests will want to spend the night so it’s a great thing that you can create rooms with beds in your tavern! Every room will be rated with stars from 1 to 5 which will determine how much money you can earn from the guests. It’s your choice if you want to create big rooms with 5 beds or smaller rooms with expensive furniture that would make guests spend more money.

Many ways to play
There are many different possibilities in Tavern Master and there is no single best way to play. You can spend your time decorating the tavern and making it look cozy and beautiful, you can work towards maximizing revenue by adjusting seating arrangement, prices and salaries for the staff or figure out a completely new way like building only bedrooms instead of having the bar and the kitchen.

This is the perfect balance between challenging and cozy. I love business tycoon games but hate when they feel too "mechanical" and predictable. Tavern Master does a great job of letting you control how many patrons you have, and lets you control the managerial aspects of employees and the logistics to try and maximize efficiency. The other side of it is getting to actually design the layout of your tavern and decorate it. And the lighting has a warm glow that makes the game extra aesthetic!

It could be an alright game with a lot more content, whether it be visual customization (eg. furnitures, lighting, wallpapers) or gameplay complexities. But every mechanic that gets introduced almost immediately exhausts all gameplay as soon as you place a couple of relevant items to it; eg. you finally unlock a new type of drink after hours of gameplay! You stock it. The end. After that point, it's just a waiting game, refilling stocks, gaining money, and maybe working towards achievements. Probably fine to purchase on a sale. Not really a fulfilling gaming experience otherwise.

My god does this game REALLY drag on in the end game, felt like I had played for 10 more hours than I should have because grinding research and quests takes forever. The whole fire extinguishing mechanic is pointless. You only need the level 1 fire extinguisher on each floor because it doesnt spread fast at all an there is always going to be a staff member near it, it also is pretty rare for a fire to break out because fire chance is based off number of lights and candle quality, which becomes incredibly cheap. Takeout windows are also pointless because you only get one for most of the game and then when you get unlimited kitchen objects you have multiple floors that would be too much effort to rearrange the floor plan to make room for a takeout window. Same thing with hotels, by the time they are unlocked you already have nowhere to put them until you unlock the next floor. Then there are toilets, which run into the same issue as mentioned before, but only this time you are force...

This game is the perfect balance of relaxing and challenging. The ongoing music is charming and it combines well with the aesthetics of the game. The animations are fun and the mechanics are pretty easy to learn. What I love most about this game are the little things it makes you consider, like how the quality of the candle wax you use affects your risk for fire, or how guests are more likely to tolerate long wait times if there's a band to watch/listen to. Just when you start to feel you know everything a new mechanic is introduced, renewing your interest and engaging your mind. I am definitely including this as one of the best sims I've played in a long while, and I have no doubt I'll continue syncing time into it until I have every achievement.
