The Dream of Shadowlands Episode 2: The Corpse of the Labyrinth

After narrowly escaping their previous surroundings, Rina and Jyl find an abandoned temple to Yurenica. The lingering remains of a demon society hide a twisted maze and the history that its inhabitants left behind. Uncovering a wealth of Shadowlands theology and the frightening creatures that have since overtaken the premises, Rina begins to better understand her circumstances. But as the stakes are risen and new challenges are presented, how will the motivations of those around her change?

"The Dream of Shadowlands" is a top-down RPG series inspired by the RPGMaker horror niche. It features art assets that were drawn traditionally with ink and paper, and a retro style based on 90's anime. Some of the art, namely the animated cutscenes, are done using traditional cel ink and paint!

This is the second episode in a series planned to run for 5 episodes. To keep track of episodes and receive email alerts about new releases, please check out the official website for the series.

The first part is free, so give that one a try if you're interested. This chapter expands on the earlier established story and setting. This part is somewhat bleak, sad, and perhaps a little scary, but other themes include brightness, hopefulness, and a touch of dark humor. The protagonists are developing, and their relationship is changing, bit by bit. Their interactions are a little more interesting, in my opinion, and a bit of banter even begins to develop between them. Longer and larger than the first game, with a couple new puzzle mechanics and items. Puzzles are mostly straightforward, but sometimes you have to churn your noggin just a touch. Combat is largely unchanged; if you're looking for a thrilling battle experience, you may be in the wrong place. The enemies can be a nuisance, but can be avoided without much difficulty. Very endearing artstyle and character design, with a few short (but sweet) traditionally animated cutscenes. Voice acting is inconsistent, with performance...

Great continuation of the previous episode, this one provides a lot of interesting lore about the world. If you liked episode 1 you'll like this too. I'm looking forward to future entries, this series really deserves more attention.

This game is honestly a gem. The 90's anime visuals, the music, the story, and the simple yet satisfying game play make it a real treat. This episode is not only longer than the first, but has more mechanics and puzzles. The story is also expanded and more context is given. If you enjoyed the first episode, this is a must play! The story continues and changes with a great ending sequence. The voice acting is solid. I can't get over the nostalgic visuals this game has. This series is definitely one for you to get into.
