I need to explain how extraordinary, how facile, how effective this game is by telling you about a bit of tetris theory. Imagine a grid with a checked pattern, alternating black squares and white squares. Now, place a transparent tetromino on top of the grid: how many white squares and black squares will be under the piece? For the O, L, J, S, Z, and I pieces, it's pretty clearly two white squares and two black squares (let's say, 2/2 for short). But when you place a T piece on this grid, it takes up three of one color and one of the other (3/1). This property is called "parity," and the T piece's 3/1 parity helps to confer its "jaggedness," and its difficulty to place. And parity is the exact property that the developers of Retris exploit to build their challenges. Even the simplest piece you can drop in Retris has a 2/1 parity. By putting literally anything down, you are already invoking terrible jaggedness. Failure starts from the jump. Two of the pieces have 3/0 parity, like,...

This Tetris variant is very pleasant to play. I like the trail feature (like an extension of you block) which I haven't seen before. By clearing blocks of lines, you earn pills which make you able to skip a block. Except for two levels (48 and 60), the puzzles where quite easy (but still fun). The music tracks are fine. The effects when reaching the top can be a bit overwhelming to me sometimes but it does give a better 'oof' effect when you manage to clear some lines again and all becomes more calm again. On the PC, you can change the controls but I played on the Deck and only changed the arrow up to the X button for the quick drop in the Steam control settings which plays super comfy. I also embraced the fact that for once in this type of game, the achievements are actually quite achievable for non-Tetris freaks like me. So, other achievement addicts don't have to fear bringing down their average. Oh yeah, and you collect cat hats :)
A unique and well executed take in falling block puzzle games; definitely worth trying.
Intriguing falling block game with excellent retro aesthetic.
Like. Early days.
Absolutely great concept and execution, however not my cup of tea.
The controls are a bit stiffer than id like (tucking a piece requires you to wait a while for it to fall slowly to assure you wont auto-lock) and a modern rotation system would be awesome, but this is one of the most innovative and fun tetris spinoffs ive seen, glad i caught this game
