I liked the majority of my time with this game, but there are a few design decisions that hold me back from recommending it to others. I enjoy collect-fests. I enjoyed the open world, the unique soul-jumping ability allowing me to become all manner of animals and objects. The setting, sound design, and story were both enjoyable. My main complaint is the lack of accessibility options. I finished the game, and tried to 100% it by cleaning up the last of the enemy camps, and could not see well enough to find the last item I needed to destroy to get a completed game file, receive the rest of the cosmetics, and finish the game. I searched for over an hour, flew around the area, tried to find a video or guide, before giving up in frustration. Some sort of anti-frustration feature in this regard would have gone a long way, especially in a game that is already filled with accessibility options.

Breath of the Wild stripped back to just its exploration and movement, combined with a fictionalized representation of New Caledonia. Pretty simple in terms of gameplay, but I definitely enjoyed my time with it. Didn't care much for the stealth, but thankfully stealth isn't really necessary. Excellent music and sound design. Tons of collectibles if thats your thing.

Tchia is equal parts chill sandbox adventure and love letter to the New Caledonian archipelago, where the developer's founders are from. The world map is closely inspired by real landmarks and the game is packed with references to regional foods, music, fashion, etc. The story is simple and heartfelt, blending modern-day themes with folklore in interesting ways. It touches on some heavier themes like death, environmental damage, and the social tensions the territory has faced as a former French colony, but they're gently approached from a place of sincere love and respect for both the indigenous Kanak peoples and their ethnically French compatriots. It's a refreshingly hopeful take on humanity that's pleasant to see in such bleak times. My one criticism is that there isn't enough dialogue and other characters aren't developed enough to really come to life. You often bond with them through music, but their minimal involvement in the story feels like a missed opportunity. The few enco...

A charming game with a lot of heart, and a killer soundtrack. Unfortunately I had always wondered why Tchia didn't make more of an impact when it released, as I had thought the previews looked fantastic way back. After playing and beating it myself, I now know why... This game is sorely lacking in game mechanics. It honestly feels rather underdeveloped, as if they outgrew their initial scope of the game and didn't have the budget or time to 'complete' it (or experience). Tchia's only power, and what you would think would be a focal point of the game, is her ability to "soul-jump" into ANY animal and nearly any inanimate object. It sounds incredible and is rife with puzzle, combat and platform potential. This game has a lot of animals, including a variety of marine life and birds, even insects! Unfortunately her ability to soul-jump is barely ever used at all, or even rarely required. There are no puzzles, no platforming (until one part at the end game which was a real ???), and com...

I was expecting simple exploration game. What I got was shape-shifting Banjo Hero mixed with Star Wars type story in Pacific islands. I'm not complaining XD

Fantastic game focused on culture and adventure. The story is great and can be challenging until late game when you have abilities you can just abuse and destroy everything. I love that there are trails to follow that will get you anywhere you need to go, so if you want to not use your map at all, you can. I took the time to 100% everything except the races and a couple diving spots and got just over 35 hours of gameplay. I did basically "speed run" it, as in I gathered everything in an area when I was there the first time, but a more relaxed gameplay style could easily add 10 hours more of content. You can really tell this is a passion project for the devs and they put a lot of love and culture into it. Highly Recommend.

I played for over ten hours offline. It's a very memorable adventure! There really is a lot to see and do. Though, I did find it was hard to run on my couple year old Steamdeck.

I had this game on my to-play list for a while but only just got the motivation to play. Gosh I've been missing out! This game is so much more incredible than I thought it would be in every way. I haven't progressed that far into the story yet as I've just been enjoying running around and discovering things and places, though I really like what I've seen so far of the story. I think the soul-jumping feature is very unique and adds so much fun to the game, both in terms of strategy and freedom. I love the inclusion of the journal that includes info on the native flora and fauna and use of the traditional instruments in both the gameplay and soundtrack. Usually I play games while listening to my own music but I have really enjoyed the sounds in this game so far, both the voice acting and ambient sounds while swimming, running etc. Not only does this game have smooth swimming mechanics but also climbing ones, several other games that I have played in the past have been quite clunky wi...

I went in blind, not sure what this game was, and it ended up being one of my favorite gaming experiences ever. Tchia is like if you mixed Zelda with a well-made indie animated musical. It's short and sweet, but even after you're done with the story, the huge map is fun to explore and there are still so many things to collect, see, and play around with. Tchia has some of the most fun and fluid movement mechanics I've ever experienced in a game like this; traversing the environment never gets old for me, whether it's sailing, diving, running around as Tchia, or controlling animals. Lastly, as a Polynesian, maybe I'm biased, but I feel like this team really captured something special and real about the Pacific islands. It radiates from every facet of the game's presentation, from the amazing music to the gorgeous visuals -- a kind of feeling you only get when creators put real love into a project. I got the game on sale, and I felt like I underpaid for what I got, so I bought the soun...
