User Reviews
initially purchased this shortly after it released into early access, it was cool at the time but i thought it needed a little something extra. a couple short years later and the game feels more refined with every update, and it's great to see that the dev takes feedback so seriously. mortal sin is worth every penny if you're itching for skill based pve melee combat with classic diablo vibes on top. edit: with 1.0 out, i can now safely say that this is one of my personal favorite roguelites ever made, and i've played a lot of roguelites. the skill expression here is unmatched in the genre. you really should do yourself a favor and give it a try.
One of my new favorite "one more run" games. Artistic direction is so strong, gameplay is so satisfying, systems are so engaging, dev is so committed, I love this gamee.
Mortal Sin: a labor of love from a single developer
I've known about Mortal Sin since 2022, and good lord has the game changed. The core goal has been somewhat untouched: you go to the dungeon, slash some creatures, rinse and repeat until you reach the final boss fight. However, it has been improved ever since from the player's feedback, which by the way are carefully listened and applied to the game, such as an Easy Mode - an incredible feature, since you can now practice your classes and combos and not die every time - and new classes and weapons, which is an amazing addition overall. It has its pros and cons, but overall, give it a try! It's being developed by a single developer, and he clearly loves this game, you can feel his passion for his craft and, after the 1.0 update, i would say it is one hundred percent worth your purchase!
Solid game. A few things I like, a few I don't like. To note, I have not beaten the game, nor have I done the Path of Absolution. I am a big fan of the Berserker, and am slowly learning Reaper. Things I like: - The speed of the game is great. I feel like I'm zooming through the map, things don't feel like a slog. - The big weapons feel big, like there's actual weight behind them. I can't comment on small/faster weapons, but my experience with the Reaper class says they are quick. - I like the vibe of the hub, as well as all the amenities being right next to each other, not requiring I run around the entire hub when I want to do whatever. Nice to go craft some loot or buy a potion then rush back into a level. - Dismemberment is awesome, and I like the synergies of the powerups that boost that. - I appreciate the stored gold per run, makes life a little easier for future runs Things I didn't like: I will preface this with the fact that I realize this could be purely skil...
Not a fan of the graphics/visuals. Not a fan of how the mechanics of the game were explained/introduced - it felt like the dev just threw it all into the hub area comparable to a bunch of Dark Souls player messages, added a training dummy, and called it a day. Not a fan of the equipment system, finding the same weapon on the same corpse/in the same chest over and over. Didn't find the combo system fun or engaging at all. Parry timing felt alright, but weightless. Impacts, whether on the enemy or on you, also felt so weightless. Not a fan of the lack of story/presentation, or the quests and how they are handled. There is no UI scaling option (at least that I could find) and I found the UI pretty distracting - although not as distracting as the huge sword that blocks 1/4 of the screen. Not a fan of how the dungeon progression works. Thought it was hard to find a good FOV that gave you enough pperipheral vision but without making it look like some fish-eye vision. Didn't really get t...
I have been playing this game regularly while it’s been in EA and I can say without an ounce of sarcasm that this was one of the most enjoyable early access games I’ve ever engaged with. The game has felt what I would consider “feature complete” for a very long time, the dev has just been an absolute maniac and pouring his heart and soul into this game. What you get here is a no frills, balls to the wall first person roguelike arpg, an incredibly satisfying combo system driving you throughout the experience, and a world and art style that will keep you sucked in. I cannot wait to see what comes next.
Take Doom Room Fights + Melee + A Dash of Roguelike Elements = Moral Sin. It has insanely fun flow of combat that actually feels like it has weight behind hits which is rare to get right in any game, and dismembering limbs never gets old. Sprinkle in just enough RNG, it makes each run feel different while forcing different play styles but mostly all relying on skill. Oh and there is quite a bit of characters to unlock. I can honestly see me myself dumping some hours into it especially with my Deck. Only negatives is maybe a better tutorial(could of bugged on me because of playing the demo a few weeks back) and wish there was an option for the weapon name to be shown when swapping instead of having to use the menus.
This game is a lot of fun and can be enjoyed at several different paces depending on how frantic you are feeling. The melee combat is unique and fluid, and the dismemberment is satisfying and strategic. The art style is... bold, as can be seen. I happen to enjoy it, but even if you are not sure about it the game features several ways to tinker with and customize the visuals from filters, color palettes, and more. Very cool. Most importantly, the developer of Mortal Sin is extremely active and communicative, with thorough patch notes as well as commentary on the direction of development and reasons behind major changes. Recommended for fans of: 300 Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance Berserk DOOM Fire and Ice Hard Rock and Heavy Metal Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide Etc. and so on and so forth. There's also like, a demo, so... if you are interested, just check it out for yourself!
I recently saw a youtube short from the dev titled something like "my game is good but is never in steam algorithm" and there was like 6 comments all like heck yeah it is :( sorry bro. Log into steam and on front page new & trending, i see your game. Props Nikola :). add a co-op matchmaking functionality and its an unbelievable banger.
