When I was playing Backpack Hero I thought "CR-8 is fun, I wish there was a whole game about designing circuits." Then I found Rogue Voltage. It's a roguelike battler with a large amount of logic puzzling. Understanding the order of operations for a Blaster is one thing, but time manipulation math is a beast. However, figuring out how to sequentially take out an enemy while negating all of their damage is a great feeling. The sounds and visuals are wonderful. Every module shakes and makes nice CHUNK and CRACKLE sounds when they activate. Watching your Rube Goldberg death device charge a 9 damage shot and obliterate an enemy tickles the Mad Engineer part of my brain. The RNG can be tough, but there are usually enough tools (like paint) to save a bad run. There are also times I feel like my build is finally coming together but I realize I'm already at endgame. Altogether it's a great game.

About This Game

Build your own abilities by wiring together modules. Construct crazy machines, create powerful builds and zap the monsters with insane chain reactions!

Every turn you have to decide where you want to put your energy: Into your blaster module? Do you have to crack a healing potion? Or do you store energy in a battery to prepare an even bigger move next turn?

Turns can be tactically pushed and pulled forward or backward in time: Dodge volcano eruptions and lightning strikes, slip before your enemies on the timeline or throw them into a devastating Grav-Spike.

Your adventure leads you through strange biomes where tricky enemies try to ruin your day. Compose your racks wisely to deal with the procedurally generated and progressively dangerous threats.

I played the demo for 5 minutes and I was on the fence at first, then 5 minutes became 5 hours and I decided to just buy the game lol. I was super impressed with the demo, and the main game adds a ton of content. The characters all play differently and it's super fun watching the starting module racks grow into something completely different. My biggest fear was that I'd figure out some kind of meta build/strategy and the game would get repetitive, but because there are so many different modules (and you can only get so many per run), I end up with different builds every time. Harder difficulties simultaneously feel unforgiving yet flexible with how you build, which is crazy and I still don't know how they managed that. The game encourages you not to drag battles out for too long (e.g. better rewards for ending sooner), which I think does a good job of keeping the more interesting strategies viable - especially on hard/impossible, I don't really have spare turns to farm items/currency...
It may be a record for me for how long I play a game
I played the demo almost two years ago. I bought this game right after it's release, so 1.5 years ago. And I still playing. Time after time I get bored, stop playing but always return to it after some time. IDK. I just love the game's idea SO much. It's just the right mix of random drops and deliberate strategy.
If you like tactical turn based games where you build synergies between stuff, this game is for you. Think Balatro, Slay the spire, Backpack heroes. Rogue voltage is a gem, and the developer is active on the discord server.
Genuinely innovative! Wow! haha this game takes the crazy Magnus Opus machinery and turns it into a roguelike RPG game! I cannot think anything remotely similar to this game! Just for its absolute uniqueness, this game is definitely a must play! I do have some gripes, for example I hate the artstyle, which is super low res. And the visual clarity of the game is very low. It is so hard to understand what things do just by looking at them. Modules all look so incredibly similar with each other. And I dislike the amount of time/effort it requires to unlock things.
One of the few Slay the Spire-like games that has a truly novel take on the genre. The circuit building mechanism of the game is at first a frustrating obstacle that blossoms into a delightful puzzle, rewarding creative solutions.
You just found a very nifty little title! The circuit boards you can piece together with gum, duck tape and ambition can be very satisfying to pull off! Waiting for 1.0 to sink more hours into it!
Fun roguelike with lots of silly strategies to pull off. Well worth checking out the demo. Sometimes can be a bit slow paced, and at least in Early Access you might need to intentionally shrug off simple and obvious optimizations to get the most fun out of repeated runs while things get balanced. Going the wacky routes is a lot of fun.
Great game and very original
This game is so much fun. I love the engineering spin on the turn-based genre. I do think it's missing something but I'm not sure what.
