Being absolute wood finger ( and eye), when playing bullet hell games I were bit doubtful how'd I do, but despite there being lot of lot of bullets ( specially late game), the lower difficulties in this game are actually doable for butter fingers like me, AND you can change stuff like credits and lives on menus so it makes things easier for us casuals. PROS : - Drift mode, man this is fun, max this on spot, you want to keep this up as much as possible. ( let's you move about auto targeting stuff on any direction of map vs the usual forward aim) - Save and exit as well as continue mode ! you can leave game and return where you were =) - Looks neat enough, not mega budget game, it shows on some bits but the graphics are pretty decent specially on ship designs. - lot of customization stuff ( I love the lives and continues bit) - Lots of weapons and money is easy to get so you can upgrade and swap weapons pretty easily. - Ships are different enough, some have side weapons, others ca...

About This Game
SHOOT 'EM UP!
Just keep shooting! Starlight: Eye of The Storm is a retro 2D Arcade bullet hell vertical shooter. Unleash your special powers, upgrade your weapons, get better ones! Danger can come from any direction, including 3D objects in the background.
The Full Release shall comprise of the following modes you can play:
- Campaign Mode - A storytelling modular mission-based play style where you can choose which missions to fly first. Each main mission consists of 3 short segments that must be completed in order to complete the mission as a whole. There'll be 7 main missions and 8 side missions. Side missions offer a slightly different flavour and can yield different types of bounty. Weapon shop can be accessed anytime as well.
- Arcade Mode - A no-frills 10-stage play style where the Weapon Shop is accessed once upon a stage's completion. An abridged version of the whole story without the storytelling elements; all action!
- Duel PvP Mode - This is a player vs player mode where you and your friends can duke out above Phobos City armed with weapons of your choice. Experiment different builds, different upgrades and see how much it can change the dynamics of the game. Steam Remote Play recommended!
- Survival Mode - All action, no story. Challenge yourself over 40 different waves. Each wave scales up in difficulty over time and you'll still be allowed to upgrade your weapons to counter them!
- Boss Rush Mode - All action, but BOSSES ONLY. Unlocked after completing the Campaign mode once (for good reason), you'll have good initial funding to spec your fighter properly before diving into a 12-boss fight without stop. A good mode to challenge yourself against the big guys all at once. Try the Bullet Hell difficulty to get the best experience - All around the Eye of the Storm!
DRIFT MODE
Drift (auto-pivot mode) around your enemies with style as they may challenge you to a dogfight duel! Can be upgraded later to intelligently focus on the most important or current target while ignoring non-essential targets.
WEAPONS
Each playable ship has a different set of emplacements (up to 3) that can be installed with different types of weapons.
WEAPON SHOP!
Fit your ship from a huge range of weapons (up to 77 unique combinations)! Fight with skill and you'll be rewarded with Capsules necessary to upgrade your existing weapons to a higher level!
You'll also get to enjoy the full range of ship upgrades to improve your odds in the next battle!
CREATE YOUR OWN SHIP!
Create your own customized ships with ease using your own jpg, png or tiff files with or without transparency. A set of guided criteria will help ensure that your ship is good to go! Upload your customized ship onto Steam Workshop to share with the community!
Plot
Earth, 300 years after the devastation of the Final Nuclear War. (6 months before the events of ) After the experimentation of opening wormholes went awry, several massive wormholes opened up randomly near the vicinity of the already devastated Earth.
The Council of Foresight has since chosen you and 2 of your top ace pilot friends for the mission to re-establish contact with the Council on Mars. Your ships will therefore deliver the top secret communication data via the massive wormhole and to the orbit of Mars where the local government forces will be waiting. You'll be supported tacitly by allies of the UNC through sales of secret weapons to your team. Since your mission is under absolute secrecy, you'll be attacked by ALL forces.
As enemy ships (pirates) began pouring forth and your immediate mission is to protect the UNC Headquarters Space Station that is still currently under construction from attack. Henceforth, the Starlight: Eye of The Storm saga begins....

Fun bullet hell that isn't too overwhelming and allows ship customizations and a ton of weapons to choose from! The drift mode auto-pivot is fun! Not to mention the editor to make your own custom ships from scratch! Love the game's retro look and feel too.. Please try this, especially if you are a fan of airplane shooters.
I'm not really a good schmup player, but bought this game to try it out. It's quite a good experience, although trying to dodge all the bullets gets pretty hard! Its already quite well polished for an early access game. Good: - Ability to upgrade the ship to customize it to my playstyle feels good - The "drifting" mechanic seems quite novel and fun to use - Pretty immersive sound effects makes shooting the enemies quite fulfilling Not-so-good: - Could improve on some of the UI/UX choices - Pretty hard for a schmup noob like me (but luckily there's multiple lives?)
The drift mode is awesome. Try it and find out for yourself. My 6yo daughter loved playing it too.
Very intense shmup. Especially fun with friends!
This is complete garbage. Not because it's a bad game. Fundamentally its extremely fun. Too bad it literally doesn't work. I try to use the keyboard, the controls that the screen indicates that you should use in the menu to select things don't work. The mouse pointer can be used, but not to click things. Then when I plug in my controller, it works for literally everything except the X button. The annoying thing is that the X button worked just fine in the Demo when I was using my controller. I truly can't believe that I couldn't even quit the game. I was trying to exit the game from the game menu, and that didn't work either. Just didn't do anything. I have a Razer Blackwidow Elite keyboard, and it works just fine with everything else. I went to the discussions only to discover the developers have indicated that xbox controllers don't work, but only with the X button. This is honestly so stupid. The fact that I cant even use the keyboard is absurd. Tried setting controls to how I want ...
I've have been looking for a classic bullet hell type of game for a long time now and have tired some that were out already on the market but they didn't scratch my itch. Then i came across starlight which thankfully did the job. While it doesn't have a story mode it makes up with beautiful artwork, challenging enemies, an interesting progression system, and a good soundtrack. The only thing that is missing from this game is in the endless mode. If you want a classic bullet hell shooter Starlight would be the game I would recommend
Fun shooter. Feels just like old arcade bullet hell space shooters.
A Retro Style Spaceship Shooter modernized with a twist. Drift Mode adds another dimension to the game, having to dodge for enemies coming from every direction gets you on the edge of your seat. The Visuals, Font Choice, 4:3 Aspect Ratio and words like “Token” gives the feel like you’re playing from a large arcade machine with a joystick. I appreciate the attention to detail. The music is what catches my attention. Enjoyable, pleasant, calming and it gets you pumped up for the next battle. It does overpower the sounds of spaceship battling. Being able to customize your spaceship is a great plus. A touch of personalization to suit your playstyle and having to experiment and see what works best for you. I love the generous amount of gems you get which in turn gets you money to upgrade your spaceship, it’s not grindy. The gameplay itself is challenging. Difficulty and complexity on the way these spaceships approach you build up gradually. Overall an enjoyable well polished ga...
I remember the time when i was sitting on the floor with my cousins playing games like this and not care about anything at all. This game takes me back to my childhood days, it brought smile to my face. :) Pretty nostalgic
