This game does everything wrong that a roguelike/roguelite game can. I got AK-xolotl hoping for another experience like Nuclear Throne, or Enter the Gungeon, but instead, I got an unrealized mess of a game that wasn't sure what it wanted to be. Is it a game about collecting different Axolotls to play as? because that mechanic felt under-baked and boring. The characters you unlock feel really lazy: most of them being an Axolotl that gives you slightly more damage in a certain weapon type, or some other negligible stat that hardly changes the gameplay. Is it a game about fighting critters and collecting weapons? because the weapons don't have any draw to them. The rifles feel like pellet guns, the basookas feel weak, and the melee weapons feel uninspired. The only thing that I really liked about the weapons was upgrading them with the smith in-run, because it gave them some unique qualities, and gave me some control. On the enemies, they have little to no warning on when they w...
You Are Not You When You're Hungry
Cute animals commit questionable actions will always be my religion.
Things I Like About Ak-xolotl:
Compliments

It's a level-based top-down run'n'gun shooter with a cute pixelated artstyle, similar to Enter The Gungeon and Blazing Beaks.
Controls feel snappy. The feedback and sound effect from shooting guns are sufficient. Dodging gives an unusually long i-frame comparing to its peers.
The bullet hell in this game is quite manageable. The random spread and full-screen bullet-storm are still here, but their density is significantly lessened than the others in the genre.
I like upgrades in roguelite/like that are conditional or laser-focused on certain aspects of the game. Yet, sometimes a simple stat boost is enough to ensure your victory is at hand. Ak-oxotl does the latter and I am more than happy to see my little guy gets progressively stronger each time.
I also like that alternative biomes and new e...
The game is fun and has its own theme going with the bullet hell vibes, gun options, and shooting mechanics. Me and my partner completed runs on +10, but didn' t proceed further due to some annoyances. We would love to play further, but these pushed us away, I am hoping that my complaints might be constructive for future products, or bring us back to this game. 1) the co-op mode felt very challenging with modifiers. Mostly the doubling of enemy HP, the issue is - a) 2 players does not equate to 2x damage, - b) players can interrupt each other's build by taking powerful relics needed by another, - and c) players feel weak. I am playing this game because I want to shoot some enemies, but when enemies are 2x HP, my guns are peashooters until I pull the same 3 relics I pull every game 2) the builds feel incohesive. Most items feel useless, good builds generally consists of getting the same 3-5 items every run. I think it is valuable in a roguelike to feel like you are building up ...
Love Axolotls, Love Guns, this game combines them both and i love it

So far, solo is cute. Co-op is absolute trash though, and I wouldn't recommend getting it if you're looking for cohesive co-op mode... it's kind of sucky because it would be such fun to play with friends, but not in its current state of play.
THIS GAME IS SOOO TUFF
Something about this game just grosses me out.
Honestly, it's a little egregious that this game is named (I take it renamed) to AK-xolotl: TOGETHER with how bafflingly designed the Co-op is. There is TONS of potential here, lots of charm, fun items, etc. but I cannot in good faith recommend this to anyone looking for a streamlined co-op experience with a friend. To put things into perspective, when your partner opens a chest, your game completely freezes and a text box appears that says "wait for player 2 to finish." you cannot see their options to select from, you can't even run around the room. It seems trivial, but the game is just littered with little things like this in addition to some minor but annoying bugs like the shop just Not working sometimes and softlocking you that make it hard to recommend. The core gameplay IS fun but the glaring issues with coop definitely need to be fixed
im sorry but this game is BORING......
