About This Game

This game is based in my actual village, but the story is fictional. Uncover the mystery of a deceased family. Explore the abandoned mansion. Discover its secrets as you try to escape. Solve puzzles, find objects and clues. But be careful... there is someone waiting for you.

I am a solo developer and Deceased is a first person puzzle horror game set in 2010. You play as Seth Cooper an old friend of Dr Jackson Hofstadter who came to see his friend after a long time. The game is set inside a huge mansion in which terrible things have happened. You will discover story of a dead family that once lived in this mansion. You’ll be able to pick up key elements, and search for things that may help you escape this mansion. Witness terrifying visions of the past and solve puzzles. Uncover the mystery of death of Dr. Jackson and his family.

Deceased is set entirely in and around a mansion presented in first-person, free-roaming 3D. As you grapple with the darkness that often limits your vision, you will need to "pick up key elements, and search for things that may help you escape." In the process, you will occasionally "witness terrifying visions of the past" that may help you to solve the mystery of this horrible family tragedy.

Glitchy, easy, too dark and annoying AI. You walk around a small area collecting keys and lighting candles to progress only to have an annoying wolf howl to stuttering, glitched out audio and seems to go in attack mode even if you're nowhere near it. The game is very easy and doesn't make a lot of sense. Add it to the endless pile of weak indie-horror games on Steam.

Crouch they say. You'll make less noise they say. It kinda makes it hard to run from the wolf that attacks you out of nowhere and depletes your health to zero-because you're literally sitting on your ass. Not one other reviewer mentioned being attacked by a wolf. Thanks guys. I would not have purchased this if I had known that little tidbit. This chick doesn't play that kind of crap. It was cool while it lasted. I had no problems with actual game play. It was smooth and glitch-free.

Crouch, they say. It’ll make you quieter, they say. Well, I followed the advice, but it made running from the wolf attack that much harder! Honestly, I didn’t expect to be ambushed by a wolf out of nowhere, and the game didn't really prepare me for it. Suddenly, my health is zero and I’m stuck crouching, which was the last thing I wanted when I was already trying to escape. This little detail was totally left out in other reviews, and I would’ve appreciated a heads-up. While I didn’t have issues with the gameplay itself, this kind of surprise made the experience frustrating. It was fun while it lasted, but I’m not here for random attacks like that. For anyone sensitive to unexpected jump scares or ambushes, just know that wolves can take you down without warning. If I had known, I probably wouldn’t have bought the game.

I'm very open to indie games, and I play a lot of them. I would NOT recommend this one. Bad performance, broken load states, map sections where you can get stuck because you can't jump, frequent audio glitches, convoluted key locations, glitchy doors, weak scares... The story is interesting, but not enough to make up for the near unplayable problems. It shows promise, and I hope the dev keeps at it, but this game just isn't good enough to play.
