Battle Bugs

Definitely bought this for the nostalgia. Its a great game though. Starts out really easy so you can understand the basic concepts then starts to get more challenging. Good game for a child to get an idea of how older games used to be. Its got childish humor and cartoon graphics and it will help build critical thinking skills without being overly complicated. You have to use the manual in additional content section in steam to get past the start screen guard rhinobugs.

Insta-buy for me, nostalgia

Game of my childhood. Still very good in 2021, a bit too easy, but super fun to play. And the idea of you being a general of an army of insects fighting another army of insects for cakes and pizza that some guy forgot on his dining table is very cool. Game is made with a lot of attention to details wchich is common for 90's games. Every insect has it's own abilities and powers but also it's own animations for moving, attacking, dying etc. There is plenty of humor here, it is not the top class humor, but it's okay considering how old the game is. Overall very addictive and fun, I am so happy to play it again. If you are an old gamer and want to show somebody what games looked like in 90-s this is a good example of it.

I Experienced some performance issues. The folks who ported this classic over to Steam use DOSBox which is a popular emulator. I did a little digging and found a few commands, tried them out myself and they seem to work great. Modern computers shouldn't have any issue so remember these two commands: Alt+Enter : Allows you to tab full screen or windowed, Alt Tabbing automatically sets it to windowed mode, so if you want it to go back to full screen (which I always do) then Alt+Enter is your winner, click into the window and use this command to go full screen. Ctrl+F12 : Speeds up the game, no really, it literally does that, I just Press Ctrl+F12 about 10 - 15 times and the game runs super smooth afterwards, it's supposed to strain the CPU a bit more, but mine didn't seem to notice, probably because the game is so old and really doesn't require much to run fast and smooth. The joy I felt seeing Battle Bugs available for play on modern hardware... This is a classic tactical game with loads of humor and fun. I spent hours upon hours playing this and I'm gladly going to take it up again. Do yourself a favor. Play a classic every now and then. Just beware the memory requirements. As the manual warns, you'll need at least 587 kilobytes of conventional and 256 kilobytes of expanded memory for the game, never mind whatever DOS Box takes up. Also, it'll take up 8MB of disk space, plus about 4MB for DOS Box. You been warned! :D

I've been looking for a copy of this game forever! huge nostalgia trip going on - it runs exactly like I remember (like crap XD ) Pro tip: in the "included material" of the game is the manual, you have to go to the page it describes for the code to enter the game. But man, was this game fun. def worth the 5 bucks if you played it back in the day. I'm not sure I'd recommend it's dated graphics and mechanics to the young crowd, but its a nice time capsule.

Reliving my own childhood with my son. Game somewhat holds up. Antiquated lack of convention (no pause shortcut, no scrolling the camera over the map with a keyboard command), but a well-thought out game. When a unit gets stuck in a loop unable to comply with a command, you get amazed at how it doesn't actually happen more often. The 90's were cool.
