About This Game

Arcante: Definitive Edition is now out, go check it out!

Arcante is an Old-School, First Person, Party-Based RPG.

Inspired by games that defined the genre, Arcante will bring you to a land where exploring and listening to suggestions is crucial to succeed.

Discover game mechanics as you play and fight enemies with a dynamic combat system, that lets you play from the point of view of your "party representative", while your party members attack in turns. And if you like to take things slowly, just pause the game and plan your next round of attacks!

Manage the party, train them, loot or buy equipment and find out what works best for them. Will your team be able to rise up to the increasingly difficult challenges, and become the heroes whose deeds are praised for the eternity?

Mysteries and hidden treasures are waiting for you, as well as both dungeons and dragons!

Characteristics

  • 5 Classes
  • 8 Animated Portraits
  • 20 abilities
  • Color-Coded Equipment with Thousands of Combinations
  • 4 Armor Types
  • 15 Weapon Types

Old-Style Challenges

Completing the game once will unlock a new game mode: you will be able to start a new game with any number of characters in your party, from one to four. Are you up for a challenge?

Arcante is here to let people feel the vibes of old games; no one knew much about their mechanics before their releases, and they were often cryptic: tutorials were hardly a thing and the path to follow was uncertain. But don't worry, difficulty settings are there to make things a little easier... or harder!

Evolving

The game is constantly and greatly changing over the weeks, thanks for all the feedbacks.

  • New types of enemies, each one of them with a characteristic way to fight!
  • Plenty of new mechanics to make the combat more interesting, like dodging and interrupting, as well as mobs being way less awkward!
  • A more customizable experience that reflects your approach to the game.
  • More control over your characters with a quick cast system.
  • Additional visual effects, animations, and a more refined experience overall :)

Despite some obvious effort, the game is just not fun. The combat is lacking any sort of teeth. The enemies are just spaced evenly around the map. The coolest thing is the centaurs, but I couldn't really enjoy it because the rest of it was so bad. https://youtu.be/2f4dE3gRluw

Somehow reminds me of Might and Magic 6 (although others might say it more resembles M&M 9 ?) Anyway, there were multiple games of this genre (first person, fantasy world exploring, party based RPG) Probably a rare genre nowadays. We all know turn-based party-wise crawlers, or top-down RPGs. Arcante feels like a variation, that wants to keep the action (free movement) of the M&M 6, but at the same time modernize the clunky spell casting (which required the player to pause the game, even with memorized / active spell, to get the upper hand). Arcante does not have the turn-based option, but simplifies the extra interactions to max 4 abilities (spells) per class, all bound to keystrokes. The free-movement style did allow me to adapt fighting styles for main enemy archetypes (melee, ranged) and while you can quickly learn when to jump back from a dangerous swordsman, also you can quickly learn how to side-step (dodge) enemy's projectiles (let it be arrows or spells) For crowd control...

Updated review: In general I love such games (close to M&M6-9) but this one needs some work though. And I still can't understand why it was not released as an early access game. Not much variety and depth so far and the size of the map / the amount of content is quite small (roughly 6-8 times smaller than M&M6), Don't get me wrong, I'd really like to give a thumbs up after improvement and more content, but for now I just can't recommend it. Hope the dev will work on it... Might update my review in a few months. Cheers!

This game has the the old Might and Magic vibe. Could use a bit more content, more quests, characters, and story but I am enjoying some nostalgia. If you are looking for an old fashion romp through fantasy ville give it a try. Finished it up. Took ab out 9 hours. Didn't find a use for the bird head statue or the second city riddle, but the ending was...interesting. Still mostly enjoyed it despite some quirks. Very old fashioned might and magic approach to the genre, but it was a fun romp down memory lane. To the creator, good luck and I hope you are successful enough to try again.

Don't buy this. No updates or fixes since October 2020. Now, the scam: Luca Favano released ARCANTE THE DEFINITIVE EDITION, IN DECEMBER 2021, fully priced for owners of this original older edition. The DEFINITIVE EDITION is just this game with just some aditional content. No option for buying the updated/patched/somewhat fixed edition at a lower price for the owners of this original game. No updates for the new either. I almost expect a third Ultimate version fully priced any time now.

If I had to sum up this game in one sentence it would be "good intentions seeking polish".
