About This Game

The year is 2120. An alien race referred to as the ‘Murkors’ have invaded every corner of earth with their unrivalled power and… rubber duck hats. The resistance holds out to prevent the extinction of humanity, but not for long. It’s up to you as a defender of earth to level up and take on the murkor hordes… before the sun sets.

No run is ever the same in this action-packed, adrenaline-fueled roguelite shooter. Start in a new location every time you play, complete randomised quests, make yourself stronger with items you collect and take on gigantic bosses at the end of each level.

Pick between three vastly unique characters to start your run with. Each character comes equipped with a standard primary weapon and special attack. Choose wisely between sharp-shooter April, half-man-half-cyborg, machine-gun wielding Rido and… Hune, a murkor experiment gone wrong.

You will be met with murkors shortly after spawning into Waikiki Beach. Be alert, defender… and FIGHT IN THE LIGHT. Murkors draw their power from the shadows, growing in size and strength. Strategically position yourself so the sun is always beaming down on you, and your enemies. (Sun cream is supplied as standard issue).

Open chests and complete missions to power up and equip new weapons. Collect as much as you can before the sun sets to give you the best possible chance in fighting murkor bosses. Items can give you anything from the ability to double jump, to a weapon like the refreshing ray – which is not-so refreshing for the murkors.

Collect ‘Mucus’ dropped by Murkors as they are defeated - this will become the currency you can bank. With ‘Mucus’ in the bank you can progress level-trees and make yourself stronger on every run. That’s right, defender… Death is not the end for you! (Or so we’ve been told to tell you. Just go and defend earth).

yeah, dunno. I wish there was a "not yet" option. combat doesnt feel that good, enemy shots can pretty much decimate you at any range as long as they have line of sight. dodging seems a bit useless when its easier to just backpedal or run away. starting weapon is all but worthless, at the very least it breaks boxes. i really want to like this, i was fully onboard with the "keep them in the light" mechanic, but im not sure yet. probs try again later once its had a few updates, but for now, nah. not for me.

TLDR: Fun game with good promise. I've had my eye on this game for a good while, about 6 months ago I saw a bit from content creators and enjoyed what I saw so I put it on my wishlist. Now I just beat my first "run" since there's only 3 bosses; 1 hour into the game, on my second try. Though I did enjoy it; there were certainly a good few caveats. 1: The movement feels off for how much the game acts like it wants you to use it, minor spoilers but the third boss requires a lot of precise movement. 2: The enemy spawns could certainly be improved, I wouldn't think that while I'm standing on a platform that can hardly hold myself; that things could spawn on top of me. I was wrong on several occasions. 3: The basic dodge with no upgrades feels almost entirely useless, you'd be better off just walking in that direction. There feels like there is a delay from me pressing shift and it activating, and I've no idea if there are I-Frames or not. 4: The game requires more precision than should b...

The developers specifically stated that this Early Access release was in no way intended to be anything near what the game will be like at full capacity. Many people could not wait for some kind of release to play this game, and this was that. The start of this game is extremely fun, and by combing through it a few times, you can definitely see that there is potential with it. The devs are extremely devoted, as they are constantly responding to noticed bugs, and hopping on them as quick as possible. This game was everything I expected it to be, and then some. I cannot wait for an eventual full release, and will continue to play this Early Access until there is one!

I played this a decent amount during the open testing and after beating it a couple times, thought it was fine enough. But after waiting a few months for a large update or two, it still feels off. The gunplay just feels very weak, and the upgrades and items you get just aren't very fun or creative. I forget monsters even get stronger in the dark honestly, because they just get beefier, that's really it. They heavily lean into this gimmick, but that's all it really is. A gimmick. Nothing wrong with gimmicks, but it doesn't really change how you play or approach them. You just shoot while slowly walking to the side so you don't die. Nothing your character does is particularly interesting or fun, and the gunplay feels so off. I wish I could explain it. Most games feel good from the jump, especially shooters, but this one doesn't. I think they need to take a step back and think about the core gameplay, because it just doesn't feel very varied or different. They can add as much content ...

I'm sad to say the game at 1.0 is worse than it was in early access for me. The player controller camera is glitching out a lot zooming in on walls and clipping in ways it never did before. The first boss is now invisible for me, so I can't make it beyond the first world where as I beat it many times in early access. Overall disappointed with 1.0.

Die After Sunset is, genuinely, pretty fun. It's not too complicated, it's pretty to look at and has some interesting challenges you can go for. However, I have already done everything the game has to offer right now and there isn't enough content for me to really want to play anymore of the game, over something like Risk of Rain. There are not many items, and most of them don't have enough of a significant effect to even be noticeable. The bosses are set, so you always encounter the same three. Because of these things, the runs always kinda feel the same. Unfortunately, I can't really recommend DAS right now, as fun as it is, because there is simply not enough content for the asking price. Definitely keep your eye on it, because the devs are really on it as far as fixing and new content goes.

this is unfortunate to write but i would honestly just play the demo and wait for the proper release if you are interested. a demo came out what feels like a year ago in a game festival on steam and it feels like nothing has changed in that time. there is a demo still available and that's what i would play for now or alternatively i would just play risk of rain 2 which is what this game pulls a large amount of inspiration from with none of the polish, now i know its early access but even when ROR2 hit EA it was much more together than this. Positives all with caveats -it Looks good albeit not the most detailed areas the first and second level look identical really other than shape but set dressing is nearly the same. -concept i like and could be played with well but so far it really doesn't server much of a purpose. Negatives -shooting doesn't feel good really at all, its also super floaty and not that precise. - there are some gun variants i think? but i could really only find t...

Fun game with a solid foundation. I would really prefer it have basic features like ROR2 for example scrapping items that you can turn into something you would actually want. I also would like to see the devs focus on movement options, it sucks currently having a double jump tied to an item when the basic character has a terrible roll. As long as the devs focus on player choice in runs, mobility, and item diversity I think this game can get up there with one of the best roguelikes.

die after sunset is easy to pick up play, the rouge lite elements helped to keep it exciting though out the different levels and runs, however in the future i would like to see some more depth add to these features such as a wider pool of item and weapons. I often found that many of the upgrades seemed to add little in the way of general progression to a run. This being said I had a lot of fun with the game and really enjoyed the arcade style shooting and movement, the look of the game as well as the art style also go a long way in making it visually appealing and vibrant. I think the day/night cycle concept is really unique and makes the game as a whole stand out compared to similar games of the same genre, i think this pared with the different locations adds a good sense of atmosphere. Overall die after sun set offers a good challenge whilst not being extremely difficult, i enjoyed the style and feel of the game, i hope the developers continue to support and update it.
