Throw Me in the River is a pretty simple game in terms of access and presentation. But it tells a great story with lots of branching paths which should keep you interested for well longer than the price of admission might suggest. On top of that, there's a lot of fantastic art and a chill soundtrack for you to enjoy as you play. You're mostly just picking dialogue options and watching the story unfold, but if you're into reading a cool story and just vibing, you'll probably want to check this out.

Low-budget visual novel. Well, more of a short story. As is common with this genre, graphics and music serve to back up the story, but that's not what the work is spent on. The technolopgy is established an unexciting: you read forward until you come to choice, rinse & repeat. So the appeal of this VN stands and falls with the writing. And I didn't connect well to that. Part of that is because I want a story to show me something new; but this game asks me about the protagonist's life on his deathbed, and the choices I made in the first few minutes in 2015 are then reflected back to me as important moments in that character's life (1995, 1975, 1955, 1943), and only the 1955 moment actually developed some character -- but ends on a note of deus ex machina. I didn't really understand this character's life from this game, and because of that, it remained uninteresting. I would not recommend this game to others; mostly because I couldn't predict who'd like it. I think that's actually ok:...
I don't play a lot of games like this, but Throw Me in the River reminded me why that is really a mistake. This game was a beautiful way to spend an hour of my time and I'm glad I picked it up. The interplay of Reis' writing, Troy's music, and Nic's artwork is masterful. You can tell every member of the team truly cared about the project. Great job and I will definitely be watching for any work you guys do in the future.
Throw Me in the River manages to say a lot in a short amount of time. It's clear that the writing, visual art, and soundtrack all have much thought and passion behind them. Several aspects of the game, particularly the themes of
divorce, father issues, and self reflection
really resonated with me. There are definitely plenty of options that make a subsequent playthrough well worth it in order to see all the possible dialogues, and seeing the gallery with commentary in between definitely helped appreciate the effort that went in to this game. I would love to see Side Group continue and improve upon this excellent base they've created, as I feel that this is just the beginning of their potential. I also still haven't
unlocked the last part of the gallery
and it's driving me crazy, I have to know!
Throw Me in the River is a visual novel about thinking back on your mistakes. It is a short story about regret, and family and trying to come to terms with your past. Throw Me in the River knows that people are fallible. Multiple choices lead to different outcomes that still lead to regret, because we all always have something to regret. Throw Me in the River will leave you pensive. It is well worth your time and the thoughts it will provoke.
Interesting VN with thought provoking and sometimes depressing themes, short but multiple endings
Throw Me in the River has a great thought-provoking story that made me go back and reset my choices more than once just to see what other interactions I could experience.
(I love the story Elisabeth tells in the car) :)
The artwork and music do an amazing job tying the mood and story together no matter what choices you make throughout the game. Well done polishing your original game jam concept! I really enjoyed it!
Throw me in the River is a short visual Novel based on the protagonist's life choices that led mostly to regrets.
I liked the game. It seemed short but I only played it once. It's very artistic and has nice music. The visual elements are nice too. I wanted to play an interesting short game and I found it. It's fun and I think it was worth the price.
Great visual novel with a captivating story and great soundtrack.
