Shovel Knight's hop to 32-bit is spectacular. What you love of the original game is present and more with the roguelite dungeons keeping you entertained and the challenges to perfect yourself as you progress in the simple yet charming story. My only complain is the auto down shovel strike that you as default unlike the previous game where you could just press down yourself but the game play is built around the mechanic, you can get used to it. The graphics are as beautiful as always, looking polished and bright with the help of Nitrome. The bosses are fun and challenging, harder than Shovel Knight's previous games but far from impossible. The items from previous games are back with even more to explore, obtained through minigames, in shops, or hidden in chests throughout the adventure. The sound design is amazing and Jake Kaufman's music keeps the vibe of the blue knight perfectly. There is a lot of post-game content to explore and replayability is very encouraged. 4.5/5 rati...

This game is fun....when it is most like Shovel Knight. The roguelite elements are not that great. You don't seem like you progress much after every run. However, I found myself coming back for more each time so it does seem like there is some sort of addictive gameplay loop here. One thing is for sure, Steam Deck owners can get a lot of mileage out of the arcade-styled nature of the game. The music by Jake Kaufman is excellent. I don't think there is a single tune in this game I don't like. It's definitely a strange spinoff to Shovel Knight that is worth checking out a discount. Just don't keep your expectations too high though.

Shovel Knight I love you. But this game doesn't work as a roguelite. I'm sorry. There are too many little problems which were never fixed. I would recommend only if you're super into Shovel Knight for the lore and stuff. Score: 5 out of 10 :(
game looks nice but is very hostile towards the player in its structure and design. Doesn't often feel satisfying to play
Honestly this is one of the best Rougelikes Ive played all year. Right up there Balatro, I play this one alot more on my PS5 as I am a trophy whore. I would suggest this to anyone looking for a challenge in a rouge like.
