Looks like an older game that might have come out in the 1990's in a box with a paper instruction manual. That is not the problem, the leaving out an instruction manual or a link to an on-line copy of it so I can figure out how to play is a big problem!

About This Game
You can choose to play as the commander of either the Northern Union or the Southern Confederates. Both sides have their own unique abilities, making it challenging whichever side you choose. The opposition can be provided either by the computer's 'artificial intelligence' or by another player if you have a suitable LAN connection set up between two computers.

The game can be played in two modes:
You can play the entire campaign as a complex strategy game covering the entire east coast of America, starting with a historically accurate deployment of troops. As well as controlling units on any level from Army Commander down to Brigade Commander, you will have to maintain your cities by fortifying them, recruiting new units, and building facilities such as hospitals and supply depots. You will also have naval forces at your disposal, which can be used to bombard enemy towns or cut off supply lines.
On the other hand, you can choose to play one of a number of historical battles, where you control the action at a regimental level, actually viewing the battlefield in a unique 3D representation. All of the major features of the battlefield are represented, and you will be able to see individual soldiers marching or riding their horses, firing their muskets and engaging the enemy.

The battle feature is also incorporated in the full campaign so that when an important battle occurs you have the option to play out the scenario on the battlefield. You may, however, choose to let the computer calculate the results for you.
Both modes of play have a range of realism settings so that you can tailor the game to your own liking, and allow more complex features as your understanding and prowess increases.
Your goal in the campaign mode is to amass victory points, and when you have enough, you win. You gain victory points by capturing cities, both those of your opponent and those who start out as neutral. How many victory points you need depends on the difficulty setting. As noted above the campaign game is turn-based, you give your orders by night and they are carried out by the day. But even though it's turn-based, you don't have time to sit back and relax, carefully pondering what to do next, since there is a time limit. On the higher difficulty levels, you won't have time to issue all the orders you would like, and you will have to prioritize, while on the lower levels you'll have plenty of time to come up with a good strategy.

Sadly, this game doesn't work. Some very serious glitches that make it unplayable. I use to love this game as a kid and I was so excited to have the opportunity to play it again, yet I cannot. Don't waste your money. Essentially this game uses the total war style interface a decade before total war was a thing.
I bought it for 1.99 i think, The Game come out in the 90's, took a little bit to figure out how to play but its ok not as good as Ultimate Civil War General but ok, u command armies thats mostly battle flag armies u can build ships upgrade citys/towns etc. Only problem im still having is the Music/Sound get to play its on in game but no sound thats because its a Dos game and i think its missing a file to get it to work for windows 7-10, So if anyone figures this out please post it send me message on how to get the music to play Thank You Ps i haven't tried multiplayer if anyone else gets this old game i will play
The Civil War is an ancient game from 1995. It's a whopping 28 years old at the time of this review. The game runs in DOSBOX and lacks proper 4:3 aspect ratio and support for any modern gaming display resolutions, hasn't been modernised or updated to run smoothly on modern gaming PCs. Despite this lack of modernisation, it carries a pretty high price tag for such an ancient game. This seems to have been put on Steam as a nostalgia gouge for people who played the original DOS based turn based Civil War strategy game. If you can get it to work, you'll quickly find this is the kind of game that came with a printed manual, because the interfaces of the time were too low res to include deep interactive tutorials, tooltips and so on. Unfortunately, the publishers decided not to include the manual here, and without that, it's a cryptic mess of guesswork if you want to try to play it, and really not worth the bother. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum r...
Really old-school game. Somewhat difficult to play. Might suggest getting only if you want to see how far games have come.
