About This Game

Drops of Death is a murder mystery visual novel where the killer is randomly chosen at the start of the game.

Featuring four dateable characters, this romantic story has a deadly twist: you may unknowingly fall in love with the killer. Not all love is innocent, and it’s up to you to decide if you can look past their actions or bring them to justice.

Drops of Death is a killer dating sim not for the faint of heart.

Adrien is a college student trying to destress from classes by going to the school’s pool. What should’ve been a relaxing nightly swim quickly turns into a bloody nightmare when a hooded killer emerges. Adrien barely manages to escape the killer’s clutches. Traumatized and with the case ongoing, Adrien can’t help but feel the killer is watching them, waiting to finish what they started.

Choose your pronouns, with the option to choose between two different appearances for Adrien.

Edwin is Adrien’s best friend and a fellow marketing major, who is part of an active campus fraternity. He can be very protective of Adrien’s well-being and has walked them home to ensure their safety a number of times. However, Edwin has shown extreme bouts of jealousy when Adrien displays the slightest interest in others.

Would a best friend really go to such lengths to "protect" someone they hold so dear?

Fawn is an energetic and knowledgeable detective who runs her own true crime blog called Fawning for Crime. Though she can be annoying (especially to Detective Singh), she loves talking about a killer’s motive and unsolved cases. Some may say her passion for crime is a bit…unhinged.

Could this cute and bubbly true crime lover really be capable of murder?

Natasha is a quiet college student who was on the school’s swim team until she was advised to leave for unknown reasons. The experience she had with her teammates wasn’t pleasant and led to her being distant and at arm's length with others—except her older brother, Anton.

Can grudges with old teammates be strong enough to kill?

Nick Singh is a young homicide detective in charge of leading the murder investigation. Growing up he always wanted to be a detective, and eventually he started his career in his hometown, but was relocated to this smaller suburb. Up until now, he’s been forced to do paperwork and small, uninteresting cases.

Would a man who vowed to protect others really commit such a horrendous crime?

date everything & dream daddy fans will probably enjoy this most. unfortunately i refunded. if you’re a big fan of the murder mystery genre and enjoy visual novels that have thoughtful and compelling writing, with a believable premise and characters, and competent and professional detectives, you’re going to be disappointed. the writing comes off as juvenile and unserious, and had me physically cringe more than once. once i got to the police station and met the two detectives and the psychologist i checked out and knew it wasn’t for me. a detective promoting her true crime blog? a psychologist making a joke about getting paid either way to the person who just witnessed multiple murders and then tries to pull the ‘care about your mental health’ act? the students at the school haven’t been informed of a multiple murder on school premises, the school is still open and functioning as normal? also, personal pet peeve, cannot stand “a pang of” 🫩 but that’s more a pet...

I enjoy it but I do wish the narrative took itself more seriously. There have been four murders on campus and mc has a serious case of PTSD, and yet a detective is promoting her blog to me while my school is functioning as normal. The game doesn't take the murders and the murderers seriously, so how should I? On top of that the clues you gather apparently don't mean a thing (at least not if you're not dating the killer), so what's the point of gathering evidence? It's a fun game with an interesting concept so I recommend it regardless, but I expected more from a visual novel being marketed as "not for the faint of heart". This is light-hearted fun with some thriller elements, not an intense murder mystery VN.

I was really excited for this to come out as I was so interested in the premise and I wanted to make sure I played through it at least twice before reviewing it, which I have done. I think, had it been better, I would have held off on a review until I got a couple more endings, but I think with the way the game is I want to review it now because honestly it’s fairly disappointing for how much hype I had for this game I tried very hard to give the game the benefit of the doubt, and it isn’t terrible by all means but I couldn’t get over some of the flaws of the game no matter how hard I tried to ignore them. And while I do want to say I think the art is beautiful and the idea itself is fantastic, there are a few elements of the game that became harder and harder to ignore throughout.
The Writing
This is the biggest thing I think for me, especially in a visual novel which is most of the game. The writing leaves a lot to be desired, specifically in the narration. I do ackn...

My only regret is that I can't smooch the cute psychologist, Riley, or Clara! If you're looking for something gritty and grim, look elsewhere. But if you enjoy clever plotting and unique premise with your romantic visual novels? Give it a go. I'm thoroughly enjoying myself.

The amount of red flags I've successfully ignored while romancing killer-Edwin in my 1st playthrough needs to be studied (by my psychologist probably). Was nervous and very invested the whole time though, so that's cool :D And kudos for the music, really added to the atmosphere! Would be worth the money even if I never played again just for this first experience. And I would absolutely play again.

The game is a nice lighthearted thing if you don't get too invested. However, I was invested -and subsequently- a bit disappointed. The lack of options really didn't work so well for me. As one of the other players said, there's a degree of realism that the game tries to hit that it sorely misses. Multiple murders on campus and yet the school is open as normal instead of being cancelled in light of the tragedy that occurred, no buddy system in place to prevent other students being harmed- even if the school made the poor choice to remain open, there should have been changes made to ensure that no classes were being held after dark. But I digress. My issue started -indeed, the biggest I have had- when you reach a point in the game where your friend walks you home -at night, to your isolated apartment- and you dont invite them to stay the night. I realise this is a visual novel, but you should have the option to offer your friend safety in light of a motiveless killer being on the lo...

Played through 2 routes so far and already love it! It's super interesting to try their routes both when they are and arent the killer. I made so many bad decisions knowing they are the killer and I am probably in danger 10/10.

In this romantic murder mystery you try to figure out who the killer is, hopefully not the one you fall in love with, and can survive till the end.
The Story & Gameplay
The cool mechanic behind this visual novel is you have no idea, at least in your first play through, who the killer actually is. You could fall in love with them, befriend them and end up sealing your own fate. I love the idea of a romance mixed with a murder mystery. After your first play-though you can choose who the killer is at the onset or continue to be surprised. You play as Adrien, with the appearance and pronouns left up to the reader. There is a history log that you can rewind so when choices pop up you can do a quick couple of steps back to save before choice points. 🌶️ Spice Level - medium for graphic descriptions of violence, death and stalking. The devs suggest this to a 16+ audience.
Settings & Extras
Settings & extras include; screen mode, resolution, gr...

I've been patiently waiting for this game since i wishlisted it 2 years ago and immediately downloaded it 30 minutes after it dropped! I do really enjoy this game. The suspense of not knowing who the killer is and ignoring all the red flags of each character is fun. I do like that you can choose the killer after the first play through and the choice to keep it random for suspense. Maybe i just haven't gone through enough routes yet but there is a sad lack of CGs as you only get one or two per play through (or none at all depending on choices) I was really hoping for an unhinged Edwin CG but sadly I didn't get any. Whether there are any or not remains to be seen. I've run into a couple bugs that froze my game(and had to restart) and an option that goes to nowhere(made a choice, had two lines of dialogue and then it just doesn't progress) Plus a couple of grammatical errors that are relatively easy to skim over. Overall I'd give it an 8/10

Played the game for a bit. And honestly absolutely love it. The random killer being chosen is really fun, cause, you can innocently play, and you are kinda wary of everyone. Or you are like me, and absolutely ignore the red flags. And in your first ever playthrough, you end up dating the killer... (crying sobbing over it) Anyway, I love the characters. The music is really good, it can absolutely build up the suspension. The voices absolutely fit the characters! Definitely gonna finish achievement hunting and getting all the cgs. 10/10 would recommend to play. Edwin best boy (even tho you made me cry in my first playthrough cause of you being the killer... ifkyk...) Also, Kim's design has no reason to go so hard.
