Played for a few hours this morning. You know what, I'm enjoying it. Is definitely early access. Seems like they have a lot of weapon and armor upgrades and plenty of skills that you level up. Combat is deadly and have had people die right away. The map is huge and I have completed the first few quests. There is crafting and went to an alchemy trainer. Has a Might and Magic vibe to it. Combat is ok but spells can fizzle and there are blocks and misses. I like that. My dragon death knight can breath lightning and harm touch. Classes and races have some unique skills. After I was done playing I was looking forward to try the first dungeon.

Hurts to give this one a negative review. This is exactly the kind of game I love to play and would hope to see more of made. The problem with this game is that the feedback loop in combat is very poorly done and it tarnishes the whole experience of the game due to the lack of proper information flow, animations, and pauses between player/enemy actions. There are little to no combat animations, the combat log can't keep up with what's going on during battle, actions taken happen so fast and with no animations it's hard to keep up with what's happening. In addition, there's no turn order gauge which just makes it even harder to follow what's going on, the end result of all of this being a clunky system that's just too hard to enjoy. It's really a bummer because the rest of the game and how it's set up is great. Create a party, get dropped into a world, and you're left to your own devices to figure it out. If the combat was even serviceable I could recommend the game, but it's jus...
This game has a ton of potential. As an early EA game it isn't there yet, but the foundation is. Decent chargen and chardev. Most blobbers do not have normal crpg content - this one does. MMX, Swords and Sorcery Underworld, Grimoire, BT4 - those are the only ones we've gotten since Wiz & Warriors, Wiz 8, and MM9 near 2 decades ago. We don't get many of these games so I have to support my favorite type of blobber when we get thrown the rare bone. You should consider doing so too.
So, this game is rough right now but it has all the pieces to be a decent blobber. Folks don't make those anymore, so I strongly suggest supporting this game if you have the means. It has several classes, races, stats and skills that make up ye olde fashioned crpg. Now it just needs to be cleaned up and more content added but the basic framework is there. I found the monk, bard, necromancer to be incomplete at best. There are skill levels initiate, novice, expert, master. Most of the expert trainers are missing as the land they live in hasn't been developed. You can level up to max but it's not in questing, just endless respawns of mobs. There are some higher level mobs to make it less tedious. The first town is fully fleshed out, such as it is. Think MM6, not Skyrim :) People are either quest givers and/or merchants and trainers. The 2nd town is much larger in size but most of the buildings are empty and locked. This may change over time. The developer has released a couple small ...
Its similar to HoMM and it has the difficulty found in older titles as well. I like it alot. There is a pretty thorough manual made for the game - its pretty neat. My tip is that you should view every enemy in the early game as a life ending experience or else you will be surprised when a bat rails your character in two shots. However, just a little bit of gear and XP will turn those mobs into a farmable area. The game can be rough as well. Save frequently. Ive had plenty of bugs happen, some are actually fun and I would see them being cool. For instance, if you jump off a cliff it will keep your momentum and slide you around. Or sometimes jumping will allow you to super jump making you fly at least 2 stories into the sky. Others are gamebreaking like not being able to heal your character from potions to having the UI softlock you from progressing. The way I happened to do that was opening my options menu to which I couldnt figure out how to leave, only to see the green button at the...
After completing the game, I can't fully recommend this game. That being said it is a good game and definitely has some aspects I would highly recommend. Pros: Really good time killer. A good D&D vibe to the game without going full miniature. (if you are looking for this, that alone would make me say play it) CPU demands aren't very high, so that is definitely a plus. Character creation is simple. The story was good. Didn't leave any lose ends. Everything was neatly tied up and eventually all lore questions were answered. Cons: Not enough enemy weaknesses. It felt like everything was weak to crush. Too many enemies had pierce and stab resistance. Even extremely fleshy ones. Navigation was an absolute pain. Also had I not taken to the community for help about maps, never would have made it through the game. Skill books are often glitchy and can't be used properly. It will use the wrong book or say you need a higher level skill even if you have skill. The ranks and levels for sk...
If you are old school, like me, and loved playing Might and Magic, you will love this game as well. Yes there are quite a few bugs, but it is EA, as soon as I watched the video, I immediately bought it, knew it was my cup of tea..so to speak. Most of the bugs are fairly minor(more annoying than anything). The one that stops me is when I get to the temple, all my icons in the HUD disappear, as soon as I enter and cannot move other than spin around. But reading the discussions, the developer is very active, and addresses the issues. So with that in mind, try the demo first( I did not, cause it is my type of game). The map to this game is huge, when it gets done there will be many hours that will go into playing this Journey. I know I cannot wait, so I am off to start a new party. :)
Not playable as is
It's not old school, it's just pure garbage! Refund requested.
There aren't that many new blobbers out there these days, and there are almost(?) none featuring both free-roam (ie, not locked to a grid) and turn based combat. Still, I was a bit leery of the small number of reviews and rather rough look of the game. I gave the demo a shot anyway and was hooked. The exploration, character building, difficulty, and questing all have a great oldschool charm to them. I bought the full game and played through it fairly obsessively. It scratched a very particular itch I'd had since playing Wizardry 8 over 20 years ago (though, the Might and Magic influences are a bit more prevalent in most systems here). Overall, I had a great time. I'd be remiss if I failed to mention some missing polish and critical bugs, though. There are many display issues with the UI, including some instances of overlapping windows causing issues and text cutting off too early. It's generally manageable, but you can feel it. The balance is a bit wonky at times, but, honestly, that'...
