About This Game

Kathy Rain: Director's Cut is a re-imagining of the classic 2016 point-and-click detective mystery set in the '90s.

In this investigative thriller, you will do things like:
 • Collect clues and make deductions
 • Analyze evidence
 • Interrogate suspects
 • Solve cryptic puzzles

All while moving from location to location on your sweet hog and getting into all sorts of trouble!

Kathy is a strong-willed journalism major who must come to terms with her troubled past as she investigates the mysterious death of her recently departed grandfather.

Armed with her motorcycle, a pack of cigs, and a notepad, Kathy delves into a local mystery surrounding her hometown that will take her on a harrowing journey of emotional and personal turmoil.

As she follows a trail of clues left by her grandfather, questions emerge: What was Joseph Rain really looking for that night all those years ago? What turned him into a mere shell of a man, confined to a wheelchair? What secret did a suicidal young artist take with her to the grave, and why are so many people in Conwell Springs going mad? The truth is dark, sinister, and yours to uncover…

Kathy Rain quite literally says "I'm not like other girls" un-ironically in this game. And that tells you most of what you need to know about her character, who whole identity is being alternative, a baddie, who smokes cigs, rides a motorbike, has a messy room and listens to heavy metal. lol And yet I found myself enjoying the game in spite of all that. Its decent point and click with a little supernatural horror to add a bit off spice, not tremendously difficult, in fact quite easy, but with a solid enough story and atmosphere that you'll be glad you experienced it. I do want to address a negative review I read since comments are turned off, about how Kathy Rain is a story about pro life. I would suggest this person greatly misinterpreted the media, and I think its not about whether an abortion is right or wrong and more that this is something the character struggled with, its made clear, at least in my mind, that this character feels personal guilt for a lot of things, and not nece...

Kathy Rain is a sarcastic, motorcycle riding, accidental gumshoe who could drink Gabriel Knight under the table. Her first case is a small classic and a must play for adventure game aficionados - particularly those of the sass-mouth, mall goth, misfit variety.

The game definitely had potential – the atmosphere and the art style are excellent, and with the nostalgic 90s setting it promised a lot. However, as the story unfolds, it basically falls apart, and the attempt to explain everything through the
supernatural
feels pathetically cheap and lame. The plot is so full of holes that by the end I didn’t even care what happened to the characters nor we get the decent explanation of all the happenings. That’s the main problem of this game: instead of a big finale, we end up with a big disappointment. The puzzles also often become illogically difficult without enough hints.

i wish there was a neutral option on steam rather than a yes/no binary... overall a pretty solid game. good aesthetic, fitting music and compelling enough puzzles. wish i could say the same about the story.
i found kathy's motivations towards beginning her investigation on her grandfather's death very forced, since initially it was framed as a medical emergency. it feels even more abrupt when the story practically pushes her to continue investigate other loosely connected strange happenings in the locality. then, the story devolves into straight-up magic territory, ending in a resolution towards kathy's own issues surrounding family.

while the scenes are very cinematic, the limited information we have about the "crimson one" and kathy's relationships with her family (outside of throwaway comments) make it very hard to properly appreciate their cathartic release. don't really understand the deal with the red man and his kind beyond the fact that they ...

I love games like this, and this has brilliant pixel-art graphics and nice voice acting. It's a shame really that the voice acting can sometime be a little slow, but that's my only gripe. Good game. I'll play the sequels next.

Many negative critics are towards the abortion case. IMHO I don't think the author and his message are pro-life. Massive spoilers ahead
At the end of the story Kathy faces her alter ego. Conclusion of their fight are that Kathy became much more confident. Or, it doesn't seem she regrets having aborted. First the scene with the kid in the graveyard gave me goosebumps and I feared that the author was pro-life. But maybe this is just Kathy's guilt or trauma - anyway guilt no longer exists at the very end of the game.
It’s a very solid old-style graphic adventure with everything done right… except the writing. It starts as a common investigation with hints of magic/alien/other that makes you expect some kind of explanation that never arrives. The game is good and the story and is very enjoyable until the end of day four. With the start of day five everything starts falling (hard!) apart and you get throwed in a rushed final chapter that tries to explain everything with supernatural and force the protagonist to cope with life-breaking inner traumas in less than five minutes, in an absurd scenario, with choices that are unbelievable and frankly quite insulting to people who really went through that kind of situation. I’m quite sad to give a negative here because, technically speaking, it’s really a good product and the story/gameplay is good for 75% of the game, but that “no-explanation-supernaturnal-everything” ending felt incredibly lame/wrong and left me with a sour taste in my mouth...
