About This Game

Tales Of The Under-Realm: Hazel is a dark themed yuri visual novel that takes place in the fantasy world of Aravorn (already seen in games like Loren The Amazon Princess). A mysterious entity known as the Nameless God serves as the main narrator of the story, having the ability to peek in on the life of deceased souls and discover what brought them to a premature death.

In this case, the Nameless God takes an interest in the fate of a witch named Hazel.

Captured, she wakes up in a prison somewhere in Aravorn. She's not alone though. Locked in the cell next to her is an assassin named Sasha who is as lethal as she is beautiful. But can Hazel trust her just because they're in a similar situation?

The alternative is putting her faith in the paladin interrogating her. While that option is far from ideal in it's own right, Hazel can't help but feel a special connection to Tori. Is it just in her head though? Or can she really use that bond to escape?

The answer is no, of course. Hazel did end up in the Under-Realm one way or another. But is that all there is to her story? Do all of her choices lead to death? Or does she have one final trick up her sleeve?

Tales Of The Under-Realm: Hazel features two love interests, Sasha and Tori. Each of them have multiple endings that are based on the choices the player makes during the game.

The events of this story take place in Aravorn during the year 700, after the Human Empire has been split into regions and city-states due to civil unrest and power-hungry wizards.

The Cast

Hazel - One of the last witches in Aravorn - at least, that's what the Council of Grimoire thinks. She's being held prisoner in the hopes that she'll spill what she knows about the rest of them. Now Hazel has to somehow find a way to protect her fellow witches and herself.

Sasha - Hazel's chatty cellmate. Though she seems to be an open book, she's actually rather mysterious. She hasn't had an easy life which is what ultimately led to her becoming an assassin for hire. Don't be deceived by her appearance, she has more than earned that title.

Tori - Once a Disciple of Truth, she left the temple on Mount Kronos to found her own order of Templars. Strong and determined, she is in charge of a task force responsible for hunting down any witches left in Aravorn.

The story is kind of iffy, although at this point I've only completed one of the available routes. This took roughly an hour and felt somewhat short. There's some replay value with there being other choices that allow achieving different endings, but if you mess up dialogue choices more than once you probably will be locked into a specific ending due to friendship not being high enough. May edit this review to be positive after checking the other possibilities but for now I wouldn't recommend this game unless it was slightly cheaper. If the pricing was closer to 5 or 6 euros (my currency) then I'd definitely recommend it, but as is I'm not sure if it was worth paying 9 while it was on sale and certainly wouldn't recommend buying at full price. There is potential though, so if you're curious check it out as even when not on sale it's not too expensive.

Short visual novel by Winter Wolves. The main character is Hazel…. Well, sort of. Technically, she has died, and the undertaker of the afterlife for most mortal souls is the Nameless God (sounds [and looks] like something out of Lovecraft). And since he has all of eternity to spend, he sometimes takes a peek into the memories of the mortal souls in his care and sees how they died. This is the basis of the tale. Now, these memories start with Hazel waking up in an unknown prison after having been captured by the Human Empire. Her crime? Being a witch. See, the Human Empire is ruled by archwizards who rule with fear and iron fists (and magic, of course). To keep the people distracted, they have labelled several types of individuals as evils that must be destroyed. Such as witches. Frankly, they might just be jealous that witches can use the same magic they do, and also dark magic. Anyway, during your stay, you’ll have the opportunity to woo two different women. One is you close cel...

This is the revised review following the new update that fixes the vague dialogue choices. I am changing the review from the soft no to a soft yes instead. The biggest question most people ask: Is it worth the full price? No. Wait for discount. Did I apply the uncensor patch and how is it? No, I forgot. I typically fast forward through those anyway. Yes I am very weird. My play time was a bit inflated because I did open the game to double check some things as I wrote the review. Your typical end can be easily gotten in under 2 hours if you are a fast reader and not distracted. Bonus ending(s) and subsequent playthrough shouldn't be adding too much to that if you skip stuff you've already read. So some positive callouts I do need to address for this game. I really appreciate the developer providing a quick fix for the complaints in the earlier review. The game flow is much better now that I have an idea of what might be said. I noticed there are actually some minor follow ups to...

Good story. You do know it is a thieves or thieves' guild and not thief's guild, right? There is no guild if there is only one thief. I feel bad for the Nameless God.

This is highly enjoyable yuri visual novel, I like that the story has considerably dark tone and overall is serious, while atmosphere of the setting is heavy, but there is barely any drama elements. Characters are written well, protagonist Hazel and main characters Sasha and Tori have bunch of secrets and different deep personalities. Yuri romance with them is greatly embedded into story, because this will decide their fates as well as your own one. Plot is not that simple, has definitely some twists and good complications in it. I won't call this novel short, if you will consider it has the 2 distinct routes for Sasha and Tori, with 2 subroutes, each having its own events development; and also dark alone ending. Visuals are nice to eyes, this anime substyle is pleasant for me, quality is great, yet designs and scenery are quite common. Musical accompaniment is just awesome with some emotional tracks. Writing and language are nice, but for me personally narrator is excessive, taking i...
