If you love Blasphemous - you will love this! I loved the game. This is a classic Metroidvania - like a lovebaby of Blasphemous, Bloodborne and - somehow - Hollow knight, in the best way. I only wish there were multiple endings. Bosses could have been more difficult for sure (maybe not the last one). Music, art, story - all great. Combat is smooth and flowy. I love the difficulty system (pale/blood moon system). I enjoyed my 16.5 hours spent in game and can heartly recommend it!

Middling metroidvania. Will give a thumbs up because the combat is very fluid and feels fun to play. Pros: - Interesting boss fights - Great combat/movement system - lots of different systems (though they aren't delved that deep into) - exploration is fun Cons: - Characters kinda just appear and you don't really care for them - Confusing story as things just kinda happen and they don't explain why until later - Magic system is interesting, but some options are just far and above the others. You're not really incentivized to test things out - Low enemy variety - No real punishment for healing mid fight, which makes the game far too easy. I first tried the last two bosses because you can just heal up in between attacks. Overall I am happy with the time I spent beating the game, but I probably wouldn't recommend this unless it was on sale.

It's nothing groundbreaking, but it's enoyable

Moonscars is a great, challenging game if you're into dark, gritty action. The combat feels really tight and satisfying once you get the hang of it. You have to time your parries and dodges well. The art style is fantastic. It's got this creepy, painted look that makes the world really stand out. The story is interesting and full of mystery, pushing you to explore further. Definitely recommend it.

I love short indie metroidvanias in general, but I cannot recommend Moonscars. In spite of its impressive visuals and surface polish, beneath that it's made quite carelessly and guarantees as much frustration as enjoyment. The gameplay is heavily focused on combat, but the enemies are too spongy, do too much damage and are difficult to stagger, meaning that enemy encounters are always threatening to spill out of control toward a sudden and unexpected death. This would be frustrating enough without the additional mechanic that further punishes the player for dying by greatly increasing the game's difficulty upon death, which can only be undone at the cost of a valuable item. The natural result is very conservative play: I quickly learned to approach even common enemies with great caution and a specific plan executed without much improvisation, fearful of causing additional chaos. This playstyle yields progress, but it isn't very much fun, and no matter what occasionally something will...

I would like to give a positive review, but I can`t. While the game is solid, has nice artwork and atmosphere and has a lot of potential, there are some annoying mechanics and design flaws that are ANNOYING a.f.. 1) You will die very often, even with max health upgrades. This is ok for a metroidvania style game, but ... 2) As the game progresses, there will be more and more "arena" style fights, where you are locked into a tight space. In this tight spaces, there will be masses of different enemy types, that often leave no space for dodging, healing or spells. 3) Especially in late game, you rapidly lose health, while the enemies have shields that are basically indestructible (if you don't use spells). To get mana for the spells, you need to hit enemies ... a lot. As rooms or "arenas" are packed with masses of enemies, this gets pretty difficult. It seems like a design decision to stretch out the time spent to progress further, so you may die 10 times in the same room, without kn...

Super cool and with unique mechanics souls like Metroidvania. Parrying is just right. Not to hard to execute. Enjoyed it more than even Blasphemous 2.
