FISH GAME has a genuinely promising foundation. You can feel the potential within the first playthrough. The problem is how quickly that promise runs out. Within about 15 minutes you’ve seen all of the functional systems; after that, you’re left wandering through placeholders and incomplete features. Core mechanics are either missing or half-implemented. There’s a stat for water aeration, but no actual aeration system. CO₂ and pH are tracked, but there’s nothing meaningful to do with them. Fish have a “spawn drive” stat, yet breeding isn’t in the game. There’s no speed-up control, and growth rates for fish and plants are so slow that the experience turns into waiting rather than playing—after roughly seven hours, I couldn’t confirm that fish growth was happening at all. Species variety is also thin, with limited colors and breeds. Performance doesn’t justify the stylized visuals. On a large 1,000-liter tank, frame rate drops are obvious, which is disappointing...
I love the graphics and the the amount of choices you have in fish, decor, tank sizes, etc. It's so easy to upgrade and manage your personal settings as well. The only issues I've noticed were sometimes the game would alert me to issues with a tank, only for me to check the tank and find no problems. I also have had a hard time with the rotating tool for decor, but it may just be a sensitivity issue on my own settings. Overall though, I highly recommend this game for the fish hobbyist or non-hobbyist looking for a way to live vicariously. 8/10
