I gotta say, I remember this game receiving a lot of bad reviews at the beginning but seeing the new positive reviews I decided to give it a try. I'm just 1 hour into the game and I gotta say, I'm really enjoying it so far. It's been a while since I've been looking for a game to hook me and make me want to play more... and this is it. The quality of the game mechanics and the amount of things that you can do is something else. Definitely recommend it.

The year is 841 TE. King Harol is dead. Even worse, the Pestilence, an unholy plague not seen for a thousand years, has returned. It sweeps across the land, corrupting everything it touches. Madrigal Seline, a ruthlessly ambitious figure in the church, sees the Pestilence as a chance to prove herself in the eyes of her god. These forces converge on the backwater Isola Sacra, where rebel groups and the provincial government fight for control amid the isle’s crumbling ruins.
You are a Cerim – a member of a group of mystical holy warriors imbued with remarkable powers and sworn to defeat the Pestilence at any cost. But the task will prove increasingly challenging as you become entangled in the people’s plight and the vast political struggle of this downtrodden land. Chaos will pull you in every direction as you seek to cleanse the land of the plague and shape the kingdom’s fate.
Hone combat skills with a system that challenges you to be deliberate and strategic. Battle against gruesome creatures, enemy soldiers, and punishing bosses in tense, visceral combat. Feel the weight and speed of each weapon through their own move sets. Enchant armaments with runes, craft rare armor, and create bespoke character builds that fit your playstyle. 52 hours? felt like a decade. Like a whole life time.. I tried Wicked before, almost a year ago. Felt too hard, not rewarding. Then, a month ago. I came back. And man.. They really DO revolutionize the genre. All the genres! Isometric souls-lite (lite! you can change difficulties, enemies don't respawn right away. bonfire next to bosses). First of its kind! Moon studios has a SOUL. Was felt in Ori, and its felt now. Remember - there are DIFFICULTY CHOISES!! feel free to reduce to get the feel of the game. Worht it.
PLS make the controll better, could feel a lot smoother and REMOVE the Item durability!!!! PLS or i must use a cheat/mod for Item durability problem and find a way to get trophys.... FR Just put an option to remove item durability, it feels more like it slows the game down and is fking annoying. I also have real problems to get Dark Souls like controls on a controller, because of the SHITTY utility and rune buttons(is it new or have i missed something, im FR not able to get DS like control feeling so i must use WASD. I wanna use R2 for Attack and left shoulder buttons parry and shield... Starting all over agian for BREACH updates is very boring and disappointing, it feels very bad compared to my first playtrough on release time... WARNING: WASD is really BAD, you will DIE for just using it. If you just walk with WASD on a CLIFF, you automatically jump into Death!!! And also why is there no way to PAUSE the game, it's single player are you fking kidding me??? i hope MODS will fix that ...
The game is unclear from the beginning about what to do as a player and what it wants to be as a game. It was marketed as a soulslike with a new top-down perspective and in-depth combat mechanics. However, there is a significant grinding requirement that the game does not communicate clearly up-front. Instead of playing a story-driven game with a focus on mastering the (boss) fights, you end up farming useless crap in the world. Best example is the healing: Healing potions are not a thing in this game. Instead, you need to craft your own food to heal. If you don't consistently go out of your way to pluck plants/flowers, hack trees, catch fish, dig holes, you might just end up without any healing means in case you need to repeat a boss fight several times. What kind of bad game design is this? It is obvious the devs are trying to add useless grindy content into the game to maintain player counts. However, a design philosophy based around meaningless grinds (upgrade xyz buildings --> ...
I really enjoyed playing the game and i want to play again but there are things that i didn't like. There are lots of weapons and combat styles but i feel like game is restrain me from playing them. It is really hard to get different type of weapons in early game and even if you find them their stats are really bad. I wanna restore my house but the requirements for the furnitures are so high that i have to grind them in current endgame. I hated that. Multiple enemies are great but if there are enemies more than one which can grab you then if you make 1 mistake you are dead. They are not giving you any chance to recover from that. I love the camera angles but there were 2-3 times that (i can't remember which) were giving me really headaches because i was fighting with enemies and the camera just shows me a nice world view but these were 2-3 times not that much. And lastly the game needs optimization. These were the things that i disliked about the game. But these didn't stop me from enj...
This game does everything to be an absolute miserable experience playing. Core combat system is mostly fine but very slow-isch, but the vast majority besides it is designed to be inconvenient and tries so hard to wast your time. E.g. - the level design is often confusing, since there is no mini map and the actual map is often useless, as a new play you often have no idea where to go next. - useless quest log, I often had no idea what I need to do / where to go next - boring loot system and itemization, mostly just +x to y -crap, nothing actually interesting or unique that I have seen so far - There is too much resource gathering, incl. QTE crap for the bad crafting system (this makes it feel very asia-grinder like) - just boring playtime stretch - time of day System with no option to fast forward time (early quest has you wait for supper time) - MMORPG gameplay crap like daily activities - just boring playtime stretch - cocking system, that needs you grinding resources and recipes t...
great game, if it released now with no further udpates it would be worth the buy still
Nice game , visual is stuning! Gameplay is fun (soul like) , story is nice.
Fun game, lots to do and going back over explored areas is worth it. Cant wait to see what else they add to the experience.
Poised to be an all-timer for fans of slow paced action RPG's.
Comparison's like Dark Souls and Diablo will be thrown around a lot, but NRFTW is pushing forward in a new direction. Visceral, difficult combat, one of my favorite boss fights of all time (hey there, Lost Huntress), top-shelf exploration, randomized loot stats, crafting, town building, home building, and resources which reset and encourage back tracking through previously explored regions. I'm coming to know this world as well as any I've ever explored and rarely want to put the controller down... ...and it isn't even out of Early Access yet. It doesn't have co-op at the time of writing. The story is incomplete. Bring on 1.0. Bring it home Moon Studios!
