This is one of those cases where there should really be a "Neutral" option. So, the BIG positive is the atmosphere and presentation. This game is SUPER stylized, sounds great, and feels like how a Kurosawa film would be (I think). The black and white aesthetic does look amazing and adds to a unique gaming experience. HOWEVER, the game's stylization does wind up hurting things in the gameplay department. The B&W display makes things hard to see at times. The shadowed fights can be amazing to watch, but gets in the way of combat. The wide-spread shots also kind of interfere with being able to see. Gameplay is also super repetitive, mostly. The fights are VERY much set-pieces to get to with MOSTLY straight-line paths. There are some deviations for collectibles and some traps, but a lot of just A to B. When you do fight, most enemies get felled by block, light attack, light attack, repeat. Some bosses throw a wrench into things to where you have to figure out a new strat. ...

The art and setting are truly stunning, and just for that I think it's worth to pick up this game, but only on discount. Reasons being: [list] [*] The game is very short (around 5h). [*] There are a lot of contradictions in the game in terms of design. E.g. forcing you to admire the backgrounds with fixed camera angles while fighting enemies with parries and dodging. [*] The second half of the story comes out of nowhere and instead of feeling like a plot twist it simply left me confused as to why the developers thought this was a good narrative direction. The first half was way better and consistent, despite its simplicity. [*] Only one save file but tons of missable collectibles. This is the more frustrating considering many collectibles have text lore that help ground the whole story and are actually quite fun to read. [*] Despite relying almost entirely on combat to interact with the player, both the main character and the enemies are a bit clunky. It does have a pretty generous par...

Amazing game with flaws that should have been fixed or avoided from the start. This is possibly one of the best looking (and sounding) games ever made in terms of art style and direction. It's a masterpiece. The rest of the game is also good but with a few flaws that hamper an amazing overall game, such as: -stuttering (even after all this time and multiple patches, the game still runs with stuttering at times, it's not game breaking, just annoying) -The combat is great imo, but it suffers from unresponsiveness; you just press a combo and the game just doesn't do it then you do it again and it works. It's something that should have been fixed. Other than that, the game is pretty short (although it has 4 endings to discover) and it lacks variety. I think enemies like the ones in final boss fights should have been more prevalent, to make the game more exciting. Also would have loved it if the game translated the MANY Japanese kanji scattered throughout the game, would have loved to kn...
