About This Game

Underlings is a game of survival in a ruthless world in which everything is trying to kill you, hunt, gather, farm and build, but most of all, die and try again.

You will play as one of the "evil" creatures of the world, trying to escape your past and live a peaceful life, being forever hunted by the bosses of the underworld.
Explore the world of dangerous beasts, gather interesting resources to craft new weapons and armor, build up your base and try to defend it against raids of hell, or fail and have it destroyed as you run away scared and try to rebuild it again.

Who will last, you or them...?

Features:

  • 4 game modes:
Play on sandbox mode if you just want to relax, farm and build and not worry about raids, choose hardcore mode with one life and try to survive for as
long as you can, easy or normal mode depending on how much difficulty you desire with balanced gameplay.
  • Challenging gameplay:
Theres no hand holding, you will be dropped in the world where danger lurks everywhere, its up to you to survive, doing whatever it takes.
  • 4 Player co-op:
Play with your friends, create bases together and defeat hordes of enemies easier.
  • Random generation:
Start each game on a completely different randomly generated world, try to find the best place for a base, explore the world and find the resources you need.
  • Survival at its core:
Gather resources, find food, craft better weapons and armor, build a base, farm, breed animals and try to defend all of it each day or die trying.
  • No DLC's, ever:
You get the game and all of its future updates, give feedback in the forums and I will try to improve it as soon as possible.
The Difficulty Scaling Issue
The difficulty (based on days) in this game counter productive because it forces the games difficulty to ever increase based on a factor entirely outside the players control. Though unlike 7 days to die or other survival games, an in game day is only a matter of a few minutes. So if a player does not know much about the game, they can end up wasting 2, 3, 4 or 5 (in-game) days trying to figure out the basics or explore, and little do they know every single second matters in this game if you expect to survive. In short the difficulty is then based around a player who already knows exactly what to do opposed to a player who is new to the game. Which makes the game unenjoyable. The forced pacing is not something I would suggest.

Glad to have come across this little gem on Reddit of all places! after about 8 actual hours of gameplay I can say I really like it so far. If you like games like Cannibal Crossing, Don't Starve, forager etc. this one is definitely worth looking into. This review is only after a few hours of gameplay and on my second life, and there is a lot in this game. So it's not to be seen as a full thorough one, but rather as a sneak peak. It seems to be rather slow paced early on, but ramps up sneakily quickly. There is pratically no hand holding when it comes to crafting or what to do in general, but for the avid survival/roguelite/roguelike/colony management fan like me this poses an extra layer of fun. Just beat the first 'boss' like wave and looking forward to learn and experience more! There is also a cute kind of humour and lorewise there seems to be a quirky take on Evil. So far, the game only crashed once on me, and once I seemed to have been instakilled which looked to be when I ...

All in all a great game. It has that old school feel as advertised. Like games from the ancient 80's and 90's, it doesn't hold your hand and challenges you to beat it. Victory is far from certain. I haven't beat it yet but, when I do, that feeling of achievement is sure to follow. In contrast to the empty feeling from beating adventure games that autopilot the player to certain victory, I prefer games like this one. There's a lot more to the crafting system than I expected. I was surprised as this game has more crafting structures than most other game out there, and not just some one time use stations either. They all get used over and over. Bonus points for me running into a game ending crash that wouldn't allow me to continue and the developer fixed it within a few hours of posting a bug report.

REVIEW UPDATE #2 I am glad that the "instant noodles" nest exploit, armor, and repair bug has been addressed, it is a much better gaming experience now. I wish there there were an easier way to create and join servers (think "Don't Starve). I still love the game & I think that you should buy it.

This game is definitely early access. You can tell a lot by some of the balance issues, but that is not to say that the game is bad in any department. The main issues that I had was the nightly raids, being too difficult, but if you can learn the game in a Sandbox mode, then raids instantly become much easier. There is a bunch of content out right now and I plan on continuing to play this game.

This game is not in a playable state for Co op. Playing on world hosted by my friend we had a bunch of minor bugs that were easy to work around, after a while my characters avatar in the inventory became the first character in the selection menu, I was the slug guy at the far end. I could only put on armour if my hot bar was full and I picked armour up off of the ground, I could see the armour on my character but not in my inventory so I couldn't see durability or take it off to repair it. I tried re logging and deleting my save file, these didn't work. I made a single player world and selected the character that starts with the bone sword, everything looked good, Exited(saved). As soon as I reconnected to my friends game while it was still loading world generation, his inventory gets deleted and replaced with a bone sword and some essence, my single player, different world characters starting inventory WTF. He was sorting out our chests at the time and we lost hours of items co...

Who is this game for? It's a survival game with no music, a very slow-moving character, slow attacks, food that takes forever to grow, and a constant whistling wind as your background music. Is the intent to make Terraria for depressed midwesterners? Stardew Valley but miserable? Demade Dark Souls but ugly? Who is this game FOR?
