the game is soooo obviously inspired by cyberpunk 2077 i loved the side quests and mini games (that arcade one… iykyk) and the 3d/2d playstyle was super fun. the art and characters felt a lil random but i’m a sucker for a cyberpunk dystopia and parody pop-culture moments so 10/10 for the vibe plus you can change clothes, talk to people, fish~ :p tiny details that make it feel alive and immersive but towards the end it felt like a whole different game with the parallel dimensions and stuff -not to spoil- the plot got a lil lost but not in a bad way still super fun and i’d totally recommend it.

Overall: C- | Reviewed in: August 2025 I am convinced that no one knows how to pronounce the name this game. It’s never said in the entire runtime (or even in any unspoken text, as far as I can tell). To the best of my knowledge, ‘Mutationem’ is complete nonsense both in-game and out. So, why bring this up? Because first: I think it’s vaguely funny (both in humor and peculiarity) to title your game something completely made up and nearly unpronounceable, and second: it is indicative of the game at large—attention grabbing but utterly vapid. But let’s start positive. The game’s gorgeous. It has a striking combination of low-poly environment with 2D sprites for all the characters and enemies. Every city you visit feels rich and lived in. If you are the type to obsess over lore and the mundane in a fantastic setting, there are more than enough little tidbits here and there to sate your appetite. Advertisements and movie posters are scattered around the landscape and d...
A well-known story behind the scenes: This game was initially supposed to be a part of a very certain fandom (no spoilers, but it's pretty obvious after 10 hours of gameplay, which fandom this is), then due to copyright issues it got re-based into a different, cyberpunk-like, universe. The resulting plot is a mess with regards to both fandoms. The gameplay itself is not really bad, but it looks like at some point authors just gave up trying to give an explanation to all those boss fights you're having one right after another. And then all of a sudden it's not cyberpunk but an entirely different thing. As others say, if you care about the plot in side scrollers, consider buying this on discount only. The full price is too much.
Anno: Mutationem

A Fair And Balanced Review
"I got a bit too intimate with a cylinder I thought would be a bit snug and grippy, but I failed to account for the diameter being fixed, and now I'm stuck." "How do you want me to write this up?" "Eh...call it 'entangleitis' or some other medical jargon other than 'reproductive organ trapped in vacuum cleaner.' Please." ANNO: Mutationem is a game that comes into its 9 to 5 at 9am sharp, tosses its stuff in the break room, works hard, does what it's paid for and clocks out at the stroke of 5, exactly when it's supposed to. It has a perfect work-life balance. It's competent. It's cool. It's respectable, and it's easy on the eyes. It respects you and is fun to interact with. If all games were like this, I think we'd all have a lot more fun. Thinking Stars built a genuine work of art, and not in the "it's an art gallery" way. You are beating the crap out of robots, crabs and Sasuke Uchiha in the middle of the Guggenh...
Was having an OK time. Learning the systems, combat, exploring. Nothing wowing me but nothing pissing me off. Until the stupid 'find the suspect' sidequest. This is a red flag that is signalling that rest of the game will be GARBAGE and I'd be wasting my time if I continue playing. Poorly designed quest with arbitrary steps to advance. There's definitely going to be more schizo garbage like this dumb quest tacked onto the game. Combat is basic, movement is basic, story is mid and quests are annoying. Why the hell should I keep playing and why the hell should anyone play this?!
I heard a lot of people say this game was ass but I really really like it. When Jill and Dana from Valhalla showed up I actually cried from excitement, it was so special to me. AND I LOVE AYANE SM. They could seriously do to lose the gross jiggle physics though
hidden gem if you love anime/cyberpunk action games combat is smooth. sorry seems interesting so far
I love the 2D and 3D mixed artstyles, I enjoyed the gameplay and mechanics and I took my time reading the various logs. Really great game, definitely recommend.
Incredible art direction and character development. Loved the side missions, and I wish there were more. Story-based dungeons got pretty tiresome in the second half of the game. No regrets playing the game, but unfortunately I recommend with a bit of hesitance. That said, I wish ThinkingStars nothing but the best moving forward. They've got a lot of great ideas, and I hope they properly refine them.
Great game. The mix of 2D pixel graphics with 3 Dimensional spaces is visually unique and excellent. Atmosphere/world building is great, and combat is fun and diverse for different play-styles. The story is mostly follow-able, but some plot towards the end had me scratching my head in confusion, but maybe that's just a me thing. Overall I can not recommend this game enough; Super unique experience that left me wanting more.
