I love the game, but there's just few problems! Three and a half hour in this game feels like a long time, but in a good way. Now, I will not let my ineptitude to understand the puzzle weigh too much on whether I'm recommending this game or not. Listen: + Game has nice visual, better than I expected + Voice acting is quite charming I found + Atmosphere, the scare, it's awesome + Got ample ammo when exploring - Medicines! I wish I can have more when the stuff I check teases me about various medicines, like can I have more of those!? - Most of the areas are empty. Like, I swear I have these feelings, oh there should be an item here. Nope, no, and nope. Nothing. - Direction is quite confusing. I wish there is a journal telling me where to go? - The PUZZLE! I love the puzzles in the earlier section, but the moment I had to backtrack to previous location to retrieve an item for the area I unlock to unlock the next area, I feel somewhat worried. - No options for auto/manual saves...

About This Game
Something Evil Lurks at Winterlake
While investigating the disappearance of twin girls at Winterlake, something terrible happens to Caroline Walker. Waking in the dead of night, naked and hooked up to some kind of outdated medical equipment in a bathtub, Caroline must fight for her life as she explores the halls of the abandoned mansion.
A Nod to the Classics
Tormented Souls draws inspiration from classic survival horror like From Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and Alone in the Dark. A modern take on the fixed-perspective action-adventure game, Tormented Souls offers a modernised control scheme and dynamic camera combined with classic gameplay.
Deadly Combat
Dark forces and unspeakable horrors will do everything in their power to stop Caroline getting to the truth. Use anything and everything that you can find to fight back against evils lurking in the darkness.
Keep Your Wits About You
You'll need much more than a steady aim and sharp reflexes to make it out alive. Search the environment for anything you can use to your advantage. Combine items to solve twisted puzzles and use every resource available to explore the secrets of the mansion and its grounds.
Fiendish Puzzles
Scavenge essential resources and tools, decipher clues from long-forgotten journals, and combine it all to solve fiendish puzzles and get to the bottom of the mansion's sordid history.
Another Dimension
Nothing is quite as it seems at Winterlake. Mirrors provide a path to an alternate reality and another place in time. By crossing these shimmering gateways, Caroline can manipulate the very fabric of reality in surprising ways.

You Are Not Alone In the Dark
The mansion may seem abandoned, but as Caroline investigates its secrets, dark forces and unspeakable horrors will do everything in their power to stop her getting to the truth. Be sure to be alert at all times, and use anything you can find to fight off the encroaching terrors of Winterlake. Just remember: gaze into the darkness, and it also gazes into you...
Can Caroline Walker discover the truth and escape with her life?

A love letter to OG Resident Evil

I love when developers don't just chase the mainstream and try making a what's-currently-popular type of game, but rather make a type of game they themselves love and enjoy. You can genuinely tell this is the case here. As the title says, this game is heavily inspired by the original Resident Evil games, as well as some others such as Silent Hill and Alone in the Dark. I've played the modern free camera 3rd person shooter Resident Evil games so much and gotten used to that format to the point that I completely forgot how good the OG style of fixed camera view is as well. I’m going to compare this game a lot to OG Resident Evil games during this review for convenience. So, yeah, if you want the short version of the review - this is basically identical to the old school Resident Evil games and plays just like some remakes of the old ones (Resident Evil 1, Resident Evil 0, and all the old non-remake ones)...
While I respect this game for how it manages to capture charm and style of old school Resident evil pretty perfectly, I'm not enjoying the game. While i understand people's complaints about having limited amount of saves, I don't have a problem with that aspect on it's own, My problem is with the actual difficulty and just how insanely tedious this game is. Having to conserve ammo is pretty standard for survival horror, but the melee system is so bad that damage is unavoidable. You can't run past enemies without taking damage and you die in about 3 hits, healing items also seem very scarce. Pair that with the very limited saves and you create insane level of tedious. You're going to have to replay the same sections of the game over and over and over until you can do things perfectly. Preserve as much ammo as possible while taking as little damage as possible. That's not fun to me. I like a challenge but this isn't a challenge, it's just tedious
It feels like the developer decided to incorporate all of the worst aspects of classic survival horror games. save spots spaced out too far out. if you want to redo a section it feels like a waste of time because of the amount of back tracking. weapons that are so weak they might as well be worthless, combines with enemies that are too close to the player in confined spaces, or that move too quickly. Fixed camera angles designed to be intentionally confusing, designed to make it harder to dodge enemies. A mostly useless map. I grew up playing all the classic survival horror games on original hardware, starting with alone in the dark. This games classic "features" were just work arounds for technical limitations of the time. i'm not saying that a game being difficult is bad, or that games need to be easy. The issue is when the difficulty is created through design choices to create player frustration.
Tormented Souls is a game that mixes the puzzles and story style of Silent Hill with the gameplay and atmosphere of Resident Evil As for the gameplay and puzzles, the melee combat is complete garbage. Fighting in close is basically forbidden here and luckily the developers know that because honestly I have no idea how to explain that before every encounter, you’re given exactly as many bullets as you need to kill all the enemies The puzzles fall into two categories: normal and Harvard-level. The first are standard puzzles you run around, think a bit and solve them but starting from the second half of the game, the puzzles reach Harvard admissions level and I can’t imagine how I would’ve solved some of them without walkthroughs or hints What really pissed me off were the quality of life choices. For example some items on the map are marked and some aren’t or how saving requires finding tape recordings. Fuck this homage to PS1 games. Back then consoles had limited memory...
Tormented Souls is a modern survival horror game that proudly wears its influences on its sleeve, drawing heavily from the golden age of the genre during the late 1990s and early 2000s. Developed by Dual Effect and Abstract Digital and published by PQube, the game evokes the spirit of early Resident Evil and Silent Hill titles while delivering an experience that feels both familiar and frighteningly fresh. With fixed camera angles, limited resources, cryptic puzzles, and a disturbing atmosphere, Tormented Souls serves as both a love letter to the classics and a respectable modern entry into the horror genre. The story begins with Caroline Walker, a young woman who receives a mysterious letter about missing twin girls and travels to the enigmatic Winterlake Mansion, a derelict hospital teeming with grotesque secrets. From the very start, the narrative takes on a surreal, psychological tone, using themes of trauma, identity, and body horror to unsettle the player. The writing is deliber...
The save feature ruined the game for me. I lost 30 minutes of progress because I didn't have a tape to save the game—I won't be playing that again.
I mostly wanted to play this as they compare it to the first Resident Evil game (my favorite), which it genuinely feels like a mix of that and Silent Hill in my opinion. I loved all the puzzles, music, story, and just the vibe of the game. Really excited for the next game, I wasn't expecting to love and enjoy this game as much as I did. Will definitely replay it again ♡
A chilling throwback to classic survival horror. With its eerie atmosphere, clever puzzles, and tense combat, it feels like a modern love letter to Resident Evil and Silent Hill. The story is dark and mysterious, and while the voice acting isn’t perfect, the game nails the horror vibe perfectly. 8.5/10 – A must-play for survival horror fans.
Game stopping bug. Turned on the generator to no effect. No lights and the electronic doors won't open. Apparently it happens to quite a few players. Also the save spots are too few and far between. Not to mention those horrible fixed camera angles. Luckily it was on sale for 2$. I now understand why....
