Loved this game back on PS2 and almost bought a few times on Steam but I was worried it would have dated badly and might sour my nostalgic memories. I was completely wrong, game still looks great (played 1080p) plays smoothly and is still probably the finest 3D platformer ever made. Combat is simplistic and enemy waves are annoying but it's not difficult and thankfully doesn't constitute much of the game-play. It is a fixer-upper though, some good Steam guides to follow but I needed to download a patch for modern resolutions, edit a few ini files, lock frame-rate to 60, manually set up controller in-game and then still had to get creative with Steam Input so I didn't need to revert to keyboard and mouse in menu's as well as adjusting left stick deadzone (works best with cross type). Also the voices are too low so you should set music and sound effects to like 60% or so, leave voices on 100% and then crank the volume. Works perfectly then though, completed game 100% with no other ...

BETTER OFF PLAYING The newer games with better control
I will die on this hill that video games have objectively improved over time. There maybe be points when publishers release garbage, but overall, quality in the industry has risen. The instances I had fun while beating this game were few. However, I do understand the reasons people have for giving it high praise. I share none of those reasons. It did not take long for me to realize I would play it simply to beat it; nothing more. Gameplay loop is simple and very obnoxious. American ninja warrior, braindead combat with annoying crackheads, and finally an aneurysm inducing puzzle section. Not cool. Nostalgia really has killed consumer fanbases. Can you like what you want? Sure. Doesn’t mean you can blind yourself from the quality of the product. Liking shit doesn’t make shit not shit. This is one of the worst games I have ever played. Ubisoft has gone from slop to masterpieces. I don’t care how bad audiences say their new games are. I’d bet the lives of my friends and famil...
This game is fucking retarded literally impossible and confusing to wall jump.
Charming in its simplicity, despite the age it is an incredibly well polished product, aside from the odd camera glitching and combat that is easy to cheese. The gameplay loop of exploring and puzzle solving goes hand in hand with the simple but charming storytelling, set in incredibly breathtaking, even today, setpieces and environments. The rewind mechanic is fun to play with and lets you be bold, as you take more risks and play accordingly, since even a fatal mistake can be undone. It even plays in the theming of regret! Charming game and experience overall.
This game still holds up. I remember playing it as a kid. Got this game from my neighbour back then. The game felt hard at that time. Now that i have bought it in my 30's I am planning to finish it this time.
The game itself runs smoothly without problem, but the gameplay doesn't hold up in 2025. The combat is more frustration than fun. However I could see why it was such a groundbreaking release in 2003 with innovative gameplay mechanics. I hope the next three Prince of Persia games from 2000s plays better.
Time rewound, hearts won. Sands of Time is a timeless platformer — fluid parkour, clever puzzles, and a heartfelt story wrapped in elegant design. The time-rewind mechanic was groundbreaking, and the narration still charms. Some combat moments feel dated, but the soul of this game is eternal. 🟢 + Smooth, acrobatic movement 🟢 + Innovative rewind mechanic 🟢 + Strong storytelling & narration 🔴 – Repetitive combat 🔴 – Clunky camera in tight spaces 9/10 – A graceful classic that defined a genre.
Honestly, this was a challenging review to write, because the game itself is worth experiencing. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is, perhaps, Ubisoft’s best production, bar none. Graphics notwithstanding (can’t fault a sixth console generation game looking old), everything from its characters & story to its striking environments, music, & platforming bring to mind the classic tales of the Arabian Nights — a beautiful, magical, otherworldly place that I've rarely seen before or since. The inclusion of time control offers players a balance between the freedom to experiment in both combat & platforming, while not removing the challenge entirely. In truth, my only complaint is that the combat is somewhat stilted, with a singular attack chain, & a handful of variations on the (leap + stab) combination. Even in 2003, this felt limiting & was fortunately improved significantly in its sequel, Warrior Within. However, I cannot genuinely recommend the HD console remaster, nor the ...
Can't believe they made a videogame adaptation of that Jake Gyllenhaal film
