I finished the game in about 4 hours, and it got a bit repetitive toward to end - it could use more randomized features or more boss fights (at least 1 per location). Vermitron has a good concept to start with, it combines tower-defense with twin-stick combat, but some of the mechanics are a bit questionable. Whenever you defend the base you don't have much control over it, sometimes you can have a maximum amount of static defense, and you will still die. I already talked to the developer, and he adjusted some of the balancing, so it should be more consistent now. I would like to see more store items because you can purchase all of them during the first few stages, and perhaps an endless mode. Not to be confused with a rogue-lite, Vermitron is more like an arcade that saves between every stage. In terms of progression, you can unlock passive bonuses, cosmetic ghost pets, and circulating weapons. The goal of each level is to find three watering cans that will trigger a tower-defense pha...

A quick Pro/Cons listing: Pro: + Game has some novelty value. Just look at the gorgeous ZX Spectrum like graphics. What, too young to care? Well... + Simple game idea: Get 3x water cans per level. Each time you find a can enemies come out of the vents and assault your main 'base flower' so build up defenses and adequate power stations in more quiet hallways that will feed power to your defenses. Of course there is more to this but in a nutshell this is what you do every level more or less. Plus hunt for secrets, coins, upgrade boxes and what not. + Cheap entertainment. Definitely worth on the sale but not sure about full price due to limited game play in the end. Con: - Bugs still being ironed out. Still some bugs around that prevent enemies from spawning thus breaking the level forcing you to restart. Not that bad anymore and you learn quick what causes them (bomb explosions, turrets built in contested rooms) - The base game idea does not take you very far so the game is best...

TL;DR: Give Vermitron a shot. When most people think of twin-stick shooters, they think of raw micro mechanics. Disciplined aiming, shooting, and dodging, instead of careful, methodical thinking. Tibor Fobel embraces the later, fabricating a retro and tower defense hybrid. The result: a solid, old-school action game that deserves more attention. Vermitron follows an intrepid astronaut, defending an endangered flower from invading insects. Player's progress level-to-level, descending further into an infested base. Winning a floor is simple: blossom your flower by collecting three watering cans. However, hungry pests will be squirming to your base, so you'll have to defend your plant along the way. Slaughtering worms and flies is easy. The trouble comes when picking up a watering can, which spawns a wave of insects. You also become slower, barely moving faster than a grub. Without a base defended by armed towers, your flower will be easy pickings as you travel back. Traversing a map's...

I can't give this a thumbs up. The gameplay wasn't really the problem, it was fun. I'm willing to say that I enjoyed it, but the main problem with it, is that it was extremely short. Maybe if it had some variety in its objectives, or changing the main one every so often, or the very simple solution of making more floors. I'm not able to recommend this game for its regular price, only if it was reduced to half the price.

Nice and funny game. Compared to the other FobTi games, this one is much longer and with more things to do. The main goal is to give three times water to a plant, to do that you have to walk around for your ship to kill bugs and gather coins. After you find 3 water can, you can proceed to next level.....and like the other FobTi games the difficulty level is quite higher, at least for me :)

A very cute ZX Spectrum styled twin-stick shooter mixed with tower defense. It may not look like it, but it's quite similar to Dungeon of the ENDLESS :D A must for all 8-bit fans!

A fantastic twin stick shooter. It's more complex than you think though. You have a base that has your flower that you have to protect. The mini map is earned, although I think it should have been received automatically. When you obtain 3 watering cans and bring them to the flower, you go to the next level. It's not as simple as it seems though. Also, to get every upgrade from the store for half price, you have to beat a maze. The maze was very frustrating at first, but once you know the pattern it's easy. The whole game probably took me an hour to figure out what was going on, but once I got the hang of it, it was smooth sailing. Make sure you build the turrets up to protect your flower. I'm still not sure which turret does what. The only negative for me was in the beginning when I didn't earn the minmap, searching for the base with the watering can in hand. The teleport won't work when you are holding a watering can. Also, the flashing red lights were disorienting, and hurt my eyes. ...

Vermitron is incredibly fun and all consuming. From a visual standpoint the graphics are lovely and are such a nostalgic throwback for retro gaming. The game-play is engaging enough where I could see myself playing it all day (I just bought it). The only thing I don't understand is how this doesn't have more user reviews - it's a great price for the time that was put into this game and the functions you can perform in it. TBH, it should be a crime how underplayed this is. If you like space/cats/dogs/protecting the last flower from earth that also smells for some reason, shooter games with strategy elements and a bit of tower defense involved, then this game is for you.
