About This Game

It's been a year since Sporey left the Blackburn Gang to make her fortune as a freelance thief. But when her former fence and mentor tracks her down, Sporey is forced back into servitude to settle an old debt. A temporary setback, she thinks. But these days, honour among thieves is wearing thin. Which of her old comrades can Sporey trust?

Filcher is a first-person 2.5D noir stealth game, a lo-fi loveletter to classic immersive sims like Thief and Deus Ex.

FEATURES

  • Immersive first-person stealth: Use cover and shadows to stay unseen, tread carefully to stay unheard, and use your eyes and ears to detect enemies, loot and secrets.
  • Explore nine lovingly hand-crafted levels, each packed with loot to steal, enemies to outsmart, security systems to bypass, documents to read and secrets to uncover.
  • Use your tools to solve problems in creative ways. They include a trusty blackjack, a sleep-dart gun, lockpicks, flashbangs and noisemaking windup toys.
  • An intriguing story told through snippets of dialogue, in-game readables, mission briefings and comic book-style cutscenes.
  • A score system that rewards stealth and exploration. Replay missions in sneakier ways to earn higher ranks. The ultimate rank, "Ghost", requires you to find all loot and secrets without knocking out any guards or being detected in any way.

Absolutely fantastic Thief clone! It definitely scratched an itch I had for more Thief style games, but also made that itch stronger after beating this game lol. I honestly don't have anything bad to say about this game except that it needs a sequel or a workshop for the community to make maps! Also plays well on Steam deck!

Filcher is GREAT game, and a worthy successor to the Thief series, however the game held back (in my opinion) by one serious design flaw: there are no mid-mission saves. The lack of mid-mission saving turns this game from what would be a 3-6sh hour long game, into a 10-40 hour long commitment (depending on how good you are and what level of completion you want to go for). Although I was never really bored by this game, there were a few points that it felt like a slog to get through, endlessly replaying levels to get the ghost rank only for one small mistake to send me back to the start to try again. There is an issue where if your timing is off and you round a corner, or more often open a door at the wrong time, you will be face to face with a patrolling guard and be forced to give up the ghost rank for this attempt, or restart and try again. I feel like no mid-mission saving should be an optional challenge if you want to get the ghost rank, and not something everyone has to grapple wi...

I applaud any game that can so successfully mimmic what the old 1990's Theif game accomplished in making a true 100% stealth immersive sim. And I'd like to take a momment to give encouragement and applaud the developer (singular or plural) for making a true spiritual successor to the original Theif 1 and 2 games. So, with all that having been said, why do I NOT recomend this game. It's simple. The enemy NPC's should have been 3D models instead of 2D sprites. In order to effectively sneak around, your situational awareness, as it concearns obsearving where people are looking and walking IS ESSENTIAL. This sort of situational awareness is completely lacking in this game. Although I was able to have a momment or two feeling like I was playind Theif again, but fresh, and new... it quickly wore off. Furthermore, you can't save or quick save. So if you screw up, you're back to the start of the level. So, you have to constantly hope that you understand what the NPC's are doing, what t...
