Gamified cinema. Charlotta Mohlin's performance is truly remarkable. If you're a cinephile who appreciates Lynch and Bergman (like me), then you'll probably love this.

About This Game
IMMORTALITY is an interactive trilogy from Sam Barlow, creator of Her Story. Use the cinematic ability to teleport from scene to scene to explore a treasure trove of newly unearthed footage from the three lost films of Marissa Marcel and traverse decades of movie history:
Alan Fischer directs Ambrosio his adaptation of M. G. Lewis’s notorious Gothic novel The Monk. He casts unknown Marissa Marcel as the infamous Matilda.

John Durick writes his thriller Minsky with Marcel in mind. Set in New York City, the movie concerns the death of a famous artist and Marissa stars as the muse suspected of murdering him.

For his swansong, Durick teams up with Marcel again as she returns from a lengthy hiatus. The movie Two of Everything is a subversive thriller which explores the duality between a successful pop star and her body double.

None of these movies was ever released. They were thought to be lost or destroyed. Until now.

What do I say about this game? It's phenomenal. It feels like a once in a lift time experience. Once you play it you feel like you have gone on a great journey and you'll never be the same. You'll be thinking and theorising about the story for long after you complete the game. To speak to the games craft, it's very skilfully made. The casts acting is absolutely brilliant. The game mechanics are simple but never feel limited. This is a game that is difficult to talk about unless the other person has played it as well, it feels that unique.
different and interesting, definitely missed some major plot points due to the unique non-linear style. i had no idea who the immortals were until i finished the game and looked up a summary. i think, had known, i would have enjoyed it more.
My question to Sam Barlow is, why is this a game? Why not just make a movie? Presenting the story this way is so disjointed and hard to follow, as the player is just shown random movie clips from 3 different movies taken out of context. Any suspense and understanding was totally lost on me because of this. Also the "gameplay" of this game is extremely tedious and frustrating, especially towards the end as you are trying to find new clips. Asking the player to click on random objects over and over again in hopes to progress the story is not fun. The actors are phenomenal though and deserve a ton of credit.
After my disappointment with Her Story I went into the next Sam Barlow game, Immortality, unsure of whether I'd like it. I'm happy to say that not only did I like Immortality, I loved it. I really appreciated that instead of searching a database like in Her Story, you click on items in the frame, and then the game attempts to send you to a different clip that looks similar. This system worked a lot better for me, as it still incentivizes paying attention during the clips for items to click on, while also making it difficult for you to get truly stuck. Immortality is a game that is staggering in scale; its one of those games where you keep looking at it and finding new things. They have essentially filmed 3 full movies and put them inside the game. The performances were fantastic across the board, but I really want to highlight the performance of the lead actress Manon Gage who played Marissa Marcel. She brings such an incredible energy to every single scene she is in, and feels perfect...
An astounding experience, I'm endlessly impressed with what the developers and writers were able to accomplish. Some of the best moments of discovery in a game despite there being no set order to find things or guarantee of what order you will see things in. If you like Her Story, this is twice as good.
A masterpiece. The word unique can only be used for one thing in this world, and that is the game itself: IMMORTALITY. It's a love letter not only to cinema, but to art itself.
Placeholder review, but it is a good game. This format definitely justifies being a game.
Don't think a game has ever haunted me the way this one has. It's a beautiful horror to unravel. I'll miss never having that first-time experience of discovery again.
They promised 10+ hours and I got 16.6 so 16.6/10 game :3
