Shape your own story.

As a nameless warrior—a ronin—your destiny evolves based on the choices you make. You will encounter historical figures and factions with various ideologies, such as the anti-shogunate faction leader Ryoma Sakamoto and the shogunate-affiliated organization Shinsengumi led by Isami Kondo, allowing you to experience the tumultuous Bakumatsu period. You will face significant decisions, such as whether to assassinate or protect key figures like Naosuke Ii, and craft your own history through a multi-ending system.

Customize your weapons and combat styles.

You can choose from various melee weapons like katana, spear, and odachi, each with multiple combat styles. By freely combining these based on enemies' weapons and your own combat style, you can enjoy a wide range of tactics. There are also ranged weapons like guns and bows, which you must use strategically according to the situation.

Explore beautiful cities in an open world.

In the mixed cultural landscape of Edo, Yokohama, and Kyoto during the Bakumatsu period, you can explore stunning scenery with seasonal changes like cherry blossoms and autumn leaves. You can use a grappling rope to climb onto rooftops and the glider Avicula to glide through the air. Additionally, you can capture your favorite views using Photo Mode.

Customize your character.

From their facial features, hair, and makeup to their body shape and voice, the protagonist—your Veiled Edge—is yours to create. As you progress through the story, you’ll acquire new clothing and gear to customize their appearance further.

Absolutely incredible action rpg. I think this might be better than Tsushima to me. The rpg systems are more in depth, I love my custom character, there are weapons to find etc. Game is also beautiful! I have it in 1440 x 2560 with dlss in quality mode, running mostly high settings, with one or two things on medium....It looks great. Combat is difficult and gory. Extremely engaging and fun. Performance is fine on my 3060 ti + 7800 x3d (32 gb ram ddr 5) (I am unhappy if I dip to 60 fps in any game so take that as you will) Again, anyone saying this game has poor visuals is completely capping in every imaginable way. Good animations, great graphics, and cool music.

Glad I got this instead of AC shadows. Game is full of jank because it’s team ninjas first attempt at open world nioh / ghost of Tsushima but there’s lots of good here with plenty of customization.

The game is still plagued with performance issues and bugs months after release, and the dev team seems to have moved on so it's unlikely that it will ever get better. It's a shame as the game is otherwise decent, if you must have it buy it on sale.

This is one of those games where you love it at first and then realize all the issues. I so want to love it, but just can't. Yes I will finish it, but ultimately cannot recommend it. It has a lot going for it. The combat is great, EXCEPT for a serious IMO flaw(I'll get to that in a minute) and has a great looking world that has a lot to do(albeit repetitive). The story is ok but could be better. and the character animations are very good. I also like how the game inserts other player's characters into your game(controlled by the system and not the other player). It adds a fun element to challenge you at times. I know a lot of people complain about the performance, but I didn't see it. I do get an occasional crash, maybe once a night, but nothing excessive and I run at the 120 locked fps. But then again, I have a what once was a top of the line machine with a 4090 and 14900KF. This does seem like a lackluster/lazy port though with the forced locked FPS and no ray tracing. Now, the ba...

The optimization is horrible, worst port you can ever see, and is just disgusting.

This game feels like the true accomplishment of all Team Ninja’s efforts after years of experimenting. ⚔️ Combat – Refined and complex but never overwhelming. It rewards patience and skill, and it’s easily one of the strongest aspects of the game. ✅ (9/10) 🎨 Graphics – Unfortunately, this is the weakest part. Since Nioh 2, Team Ninja hasn’t really improved visually. Wo Long wasn’t an upgrade, and this still looks PS4-era. For 2024 standards, that’s disappointing. ❌ (4/10) 📖 Story – The best narrative Team Ninja has ever done, with proper RPG elements and a sense of progression. Still, it doesn’t reach the storytelling heights of Sekiro, Elden Ring, or Black Myth: Wukong. ⚖️ (7/10) 🌏 World Design – Finally, a connected and continuous world! Unlike Nioh or Wo Long, where levels felt like soulless instances, here the map is bigger, more alive, and enjoyable to explore. ⭐ (9/10) ✨ Verdict: Rise of the Ronin is Team Ninja’s most...

On paper this game seems like it would be perfect. The mechanics are great, the combat fluid, and if you are a Team Ninja fan, then it checks all the boxes. It combines some Nioh mechanics with some of their other titles. It feels like they put together an ideal game mechanically, but decided to use a Ubisoft formula for the world, which is kind of disappointing. It's a great game, don't get me wrong (after they fixed the graphic optimization), but it gets super repetitive, and the world just doesn't seem vibrant or varied enough. The story is all over the place and there are so many characters that it gets hard to keep track of what's going on at times. I still had fun, but I worry that Nioh 3 is going to follow this same Ubisoft formula. I really hope it doesn't.

I've been having a blast with this game and have yet to find any game breaking bugs though I have come across a bit of jank here and there. Namely a handful of random invisible barriers and the occasional crash. Story has been fun along with a colorful cast of characters that are oddly compelling and enjoyable to interact with. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this game to friends as long as you don't mind more parry heavy combat.
