I recommend this game, with a caveat. I purchased & played this in August 2025 & although the game has been in early access (EA) since early 2021. If you've played They are Billions, Age of Darkness etc, and found those too hard, then this is a much easier game for beginners to get into. before you judge these indie developers for seemingly very limit progress in the last 4 years, it's important to note apparently this indie team (Mana Potion) is based in Ukraine (unless you live under a rock, you should know what major geo-political event has been happening there for last few years! hence I feel we can give these developers more leeway than most). POSITIVEs: this game is no where nearly as brutal as They are billions, Diplomacy is not an option, Age of Darkness etc (which I all gave up on, even on the easiest setting as a casual gamer relatively new to 'Horde/tower defence/civilization management/RTS' genre. It's got charming art style, relaxing music and pace this is probably th...

About This Game
Becastled is a cozy-meets-challenging strategy game that combines city building with RTS-like tower defense. You are the lord of the Sun Kingdom, leading its final stand against the Moon Beasts.
Design and build your castle, grow a settlement, and prepare your people for the nightly siege. By day, gather resources, place buildings, raise walls, and lay roads, keeping your subjects happy with taverns and decorations. By night, man the battlements, unleash ballistas, and hold the line until dawn.
The siege horns sound at sunset. How long can your fortress hold the dark?
BUILD A CASTLE BY DAY
Transform a humble village into a true medieval city. Lay farms and markets to keep your people fed, gather wood and iron for construction, and raise walls, watchtowers, and gates to protect your keep. Build a fantasy bastion where life flourishes under the sun!
KEEP YOUR PEOPLE HAPPY
Satisfied subjects work harder and fight with greater courage. Sawmills may sour the air, but lively taverns and street decorations lift every spirit. Balance comfort and function to keep your kingdom strong through each long night.
DEFEND AGAINST SIEGES AT NIGHT
At sunset, the Moon Beasts strike with battering rams, siege towers and even dragons. Layer your defenses with walls and iron gates, rain fire with catapults and archers, and withstand ever-stronger assaults until sunrise.
TRAIN AN UNSTOPPABLE ARMY
Forge weapons and armor to prepare your warriors for the siege. Advance from basic infantry to an army with ballistas and trebuchets. Archers, swordsmen, and pikemen will fight to the last if you train and equip them well. If the walls fall, rally every villager to defend their home.
TURN THE LAND TO YOUR ADVANTAGE
Hills, rivers, and forests can be your castle’s best allies, offering natural moats and tactical positions. But shifting seasons can betray you. A river shields you in summer but freezes solid in winter, creating a bridge for your enemy. Adapt your defenses and stockpile resources ahead of time.
BUILD, DEFEND, EXPAND, REPEAT
A strong economy fuels a stronger army. Grow your domain, claim new lands, and mine precious Sunstone to raise buildings and keep your people safe.
As your settlement expands, you will push back the forces of the night. But will you have the strength to end the ancient war between the Sunfolk and the creatures of the Moon?

User Reviews
Becastled is a charming and accessible real-time strategy game that mixes base-building, resource management, and wave-based defense mechanics into a uniquely lighthearted medieval fantasy setting. Developed by Mana Potion Studios, it presents players with a refreshing alternative to the often grim and complex strategy titles that dominate the genre. What sets Becastled apart is its simplicity and visual style—it doesn’t try to be a hardcore simulation, but instead offers an engaging, visually pleasing experience that’s both relaxing and challenging in measured doses. The core gameplay loop is built around daytime preparation and nighttime survival. During the day, you build and expand your castle, gather resources like wood, stone, and sunstone, train your troops, and prepare your defenses. Once night falls, waves of shadowy enemies known as “Infected” assault your settlement, forcing you to put your strategic layout and army composition to the test. This alternating rhythm...
So much potential, falling short. I wanted to love this game, it has elements that I would normally love in a game. However it just fell flat for me and I refunded it. One of the reasons I refunded was this has been in development for 4.5 years as I write this and it doesn't feel like it got sufficient work to evolve over that time. With a rapidly approaching October 1.0 release I don't feel this is going to make it in the best state it could be in. Is it a city builder? Sure, but in the simplest terms. You can't place buildings where you want. Want to plant a field to grow wheat? Cool! But you need tall grass on the plot or you can't build it. Want to build a cattle farm? You can, but only if there are wild cattle on the plot.. Say what? There is a lot of identity lost with these (and many many more) restrictions. The AI is almost completely lacking. Lumbermill not working? It's because your workers sit around looking at it, and you forgot to assign them to it. What a nightmare! The...
The game is nothing but a bunch of glitches now , freezes . It used to be a great game
really good game i wish they make the map bigger and they add another castles around
The game is really good, but the crash behavior is so bad I have to leave a negative review. It will randomly freeze and seemingly CTD, yet continue to run in the background, eating all of your RAM. It will not close via task manager or stopping via steam. As for the game itself, it's one of the best townbuilders I've played in a long time, with a very streamlined gameplay loop and nicely simplified features. Residents will easily fill available job roles without needing to micromanage 200+ people at once.
really fun to play i really hoped that there is more levels for buildings and walls and enemies , but in general its so fun and relaxing game

DEAD GAME played through within less than 10 hours
I'm going to say it - this is the closest we've gotten so far to a (good) 3D stronghold game. It looks simple and has no reason to be as good as it is; it's a fantastic mix of siege warfare and economic management that really makes you think about your castle and gives helms deep vibes. For bonus points, there's a surprising amount of detail. Units holding shields take less damage from the front. Towers have stairs in them where fighting can occur. Killing siege equipment is difficult, but you can kill the enemies manning it instead. And it's a unique theme that works pretty well and has a cool day/night cycle. Playing on the hardest setting is legitimately difficult but not in a "the AI cheats" kind of way. I'm not a big Early Access fan but it's improved significantly since I first played the demo and bought it, and it feels very finished in its current state.
