About This Game

UNLEASH YOUR DARKNESS

Experience the thrill of taking on hordes of fearsome yokai in a battle to the death in this brutal masocore Action RPG. Create your own original protagonist and embark on an adventure that will take you through devastated locales across Japan during the Sengoku period.

Much like the previous title which garnered much praise from fans and critics alike, Nioh 2 contains an original profound story surrounding military commanders from the Sengoku period. However, Nioh 2 goes above and beyond its predecessor by including the new Yokai Shift ability which allows the protagonist to utilize new powerful forms to defeat even the most formidable yokai in battle. New to Nioh 2, your enemies can now create a Dark Realm which raises the stakes of battle and creates new challenges for your protagonist to overcome. We hope you enjoy conquering fearsome monsters as you unleash your darkness in the world of Nioh 2.

After 40 hours or so, I can say that the game makes me want to keep playing, but my average day playing this game goes like this. Spend the day indifferent whether I play the game or not. Boredom sets in by about 4 pm. I start playing and within 30 min I clear the block/boss I was stuck on the previous day, COOL so I start the next mission and am faced with some bullsh*te (like stuck in a small arena to fight a succession of enemies, kill them all or start over). This usually makes me lose interest by 7 pm, when I shut the game down. I have never been engaged enough with this game to lose track of time, like I do with a few other games. The enemies are SUPER repetitive and limited so far. I am 3 areas into the game and there are an extremely limited number of enemy types. Many say the combat of this game is the attraction. Your tools are insanely complex, which is good or bad. I kind of like that, like Sekiro but even more tools. But if you want to just swing a big sword and dominate ...

The fact that the first playthrough is considered sort of a long tutorial tells you everything about this game. On top of that, the amount of mechanics both in combat and items is unnecessarily complex for the sake of it. Only play this game if you want to go to NG+4 or something like that, and like to fight the same enemies over and over, otherwise don't bother.

Nioh 1 was a great game. Compared to it, Nioh 2 seems like a bad joke. It is lacking in almost everything - story, level design (even graphics as such are somehow more boring), enemy design. Yet Nioh 2 seems to be widely praised. It was a bit of a mystery to me, but at the end of the day not a hard one to resolve. There are 2 kinds of Nioh players - those who care about all aspects of the game and those who care only about battle system complexity. If you belong to the first category, you will be disappointed almost for sure. If, on the other hand, all you care about is insanely complex (and supposedly also rewarding) fight system, then you might actually like this game as many others.

Nioh 2 was definitely the most chest clenching, hopeless and emotionally numbing experience I have had 100%ing a game. If you asked me why i endured so much of that mental anguish i would say it was for the experience of overcoming a ginormous metaphorical wall. Something like "your biggest enemy is yourself". The last achievement that i needed for 100% was completing a ng+2 level and i was severely underleveled. I was fighting the final boss of that level which was a 3 phase boss. Without mentioning how long it took me to even get to the boss, i fought the boss for 5 hours straight. I kept dying and dying and dying, over and over and over again. It's weakest hit was enough to barely kill me. The only reason why i could power through was because my build was meant to grow stronger the weaker my defense was which in turn made my character stronger way above where i was supposed to be at that lvl. That feeling of hopelessness consumed me entirely to the point where i felt like crying jus...

Ridiculous unfair boss fights accompanied with an even more ridiculous grind. No thank you.

One of the best soulslikes out there. Combat requires stance switching leading to some interesting combos mid-combat. Levels feel rewarding to progress through, and this game has a surreal amount of missions and content. Armor can be customized to whatever piece of apparel you want which is a really cool touch. Fingers crossed Nioh 3 lives up to the hype!

I was nominated for this game after completing the dark souls series. At first I criticized and even hated it because of the game's combat mechanism, but after learning and applying it well, the combat mechanism is quite addictive. In terms of plot, I find it normal, maybe bad for some people. The funny thing is that I met the main character from nioh 1 and he was cool as fuck. The next bad point is the item farming mechanism. At first, I found it quite okay, but when I came to dream of nioh, I started to get bored with the stat line mechanism and having to sell and filter items, which made the game experience worse. The third weakness is that the game is very difficult unless you master the combo (I recommend watching youtuber last to load), which made me feel like the hp bar was just for fun. The biggest bright spot is the game's combat mechanism. If you are patient enough to ignore the points I criticized, I think you're okay with this game.
